Mexican lawmaker pushes for expropriation law if Trump wins

A Mexican lawmaker is pushing legislation that would let Mexico's government retaliate against a possible Donald Trump presidency, Reuters reported Friday.

The legislation is designed to counter any attempt from the U.S. government to make Mexico pay for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, and gives the Mexican Senate power to disavow international treaties if Mexican national and business interests are threatened by another state.

"In cases where the property/assets of [our] fellow citizens or companies are affected by a foreign government, as Donald Trump has threatened, the Mexican government should proportionally expropriate assets and properties of foreigners from that country on our territory," the preliminary summary of the proposal said.

<>"They have also been shipping their illegals over the US border."

They do indeed Sarah. That's kind of what I meant by saying that Mexico 'outsources their poverty.' Their illegal 'agents' are the source of the billions in remittances too. What I neglected to mention though is that those illegals have overburdened our health care systems, social services and education to the point that they aren't worth much to real citizens. Mexico has the resources to be one of the wealthiest countries on the planet, but given the inherent corruption of their culture (like ours will be soon, if not already) most of their people are poor. The 'criolos' and 'penninsulars' are the upper layers of their social strata, and they want to be unburdened of their mestizo (native indian & mixed) class. To them, sending their mestizos across the border and receiving huge sums in remittances from them is a win-win. The thought of losing that money makes the Mexican ruling class livid, as they now feel entitled to it. Mexico is by no means a friend of this country, and they take good advantage of Americans corruption and stupidity.

They have their own kooks. I’d say that Mexico’s corrupt government would last about 30 days if we didn’t prop it up.

We kicked their ass in 1848 and gained a lot of land/territory. The got money and they still want more to this day. They think everyone here is dumb/stupid or Gringo as they call us. Well, they have learned jobs that Americans either will not do or want $25-100 plus an hour for. American kids are not knocking on doors asking to do anything to make money either. I shoveled snow, cut grass, hand waxed cars plus you name it. We believed in the Puritan/Protestant work ethic.

Who needs who more? The Mexican government that survives with the billions of dollars of ill gotten remittances? Or the companies that rely on cheap Mexican labor?

It’s a load of bluster, and they know it.

Mexico has failed its people. It’s why a full 25% of their poulation has fled to the United States since 1965. With natural resources comparable to ours, they ought to be a shining jewel of success in North America, and should rightfully be dealing with a tidal wave of inbound immigration from all over the globe, but they’re not.

Their leaders and their people know in their hearts, that theirs is a failed system that only rewards the upper castes of their society.

What he fails to realize is that Trump is not advocating “expropriating assets and properties of foreigners” who are here legally, only of those who are here illegally and who attempt to send that wealth out of the US... you know: thieves. Trump is going to stop the looting.

Every American corporation with a plant operating on Mexican territory has just been threatened.

Politicians south of the border have a big PR problem, so tough talk is the order for the day.

Texas can take care of the Mexican front, as long enough other states ‘got their six.’

++++++

LOL!

Well, if Trumps threat to tax product of companies who leave the US and sell their product back to here doesn’t scare them a bit, the quote of the Mexican politician should put great fear into them.

They could lose the entire plant. Hehe.

” I’m no fan of taxes, since they are the fuel for a fire of government growth and overreach, but it would be very simple to discourage employment of illegal immigrants if the employment tax code had higher FICA, FUTA, Medicare, and income tax rates for individuals who were not citizens. “

That only works if the illegals are on someone’s books. Plenty of them work for subcontractors and get paid cash. The ones who are on someone’s books use fake or stolen SS#s.

Not the best idea from Mexico... Dollar remittances from the USA to Mexico is a big part of the Mexican economy. It would be a shame for Mexico if it were shut down.

Would GM & Ford be hurt if they lost their factories. Yup. Too bad.

Naw, 173rd, 82nd and the 101st Airborne brigade and divisions would be suffice. Mexico City taken over with 2 carrier groups for CAS.

Trump's website has a section that makes a very good case for how Mexico will be made to pay for the wall.

Of course. But if the IRS and similar state organizations spent 10% of the effort they spend on chasing around legitimate small businesses on the problems you cited those problems would be rare.

The IRS disclosed a couple of years ago that they mailed tens of millions of dollars worth of fraudulent refund checks, in some cases dozens of checks to the same address. From what was disclosed it looked like the IRS basically ignored fake SS#s and fraudulent returns from areas with high concentrations of illegal immigrants.

Yes. But you can see how a single miscalculation can start a string of reprisals, some predictable some not.

As to the factories: I’m not sure if they are fully-US owned or if it’s like China where the ownership is 51-49 (US). In other words, if the US corporation were to be forced out then the domestic partners continue to operate. This is just “Thinking out Loud”. I’m sure somebody knows and will add some facts.
