At least the NHC hasn’t named these yet. At the beginning of the 2016 hurricane season, it seemed the NHC was naming every cloud over open water. Former NHC director Neil Frank has criticized the NHC for naming storms that wouldn’t have been named during his tenure.

NHC has showed remarkable restraint with Invest 99, unlike Jeff Masters who has been shouting doom and gloom for the past week.

I live in the Carolinas, but if bastardi says that I’m in peril, then I suddenly feel much safer. that guy is constantly talking, but never seems to know what he’s talking about.

having said that, the 380 hour gfs says more or less the same thing. as I said, this is the next thing to worry about.

*** “Texas has enough rain, thank you. This is one of the wettest years I can recall” ***

Double bad for us in our neighborhood ... couple years ago Johnson Grass invaded ... I sure do miss those Sand Spur days when ya mowed twice per Summer... Johnson Grass is like Mini-Bamboo and a sprinkle of rain and Whoosh ... stuff is really tough on lawnmower blades too!
Tried the digging up the clumps routine and lost ... still have to dig some up some clumps as they will actually stop a Riding Mower.
Still Digging them up as Roundup just seems to slow them down a little ... Fence lines are the hardest

Having been through Ike our family knows the amount of destruction that a hurricane can leave in its path. However, the weather media has been almost non-stop in its hype since the first of August in its relentless pursuit of making every wave and cloud formation into a Class 5 hurricane. Way over the top.

Look, you know my observation regarding tropical systems. Actual windspeed is windspeed reported by the NHC minus 10 m.p.h. If the NHC reports that Invest 99 has 35 m.p.h. winds, Invest 99 actually has 25 m.p.h. winds.

So yeah, it is with remarkable restraint that the NHC hasn't named a storm with 25 m.p.h. winds.

I don't think 9 is over yet. It's been one unpredictable rain storm. We got 20-30 knot winds today the most we have had from 9 but less rain. We had more rain earlier in the week. It's so broad we may get more rain from here in the Keys before its history.

What to watch for with 9 is the land-fall if it hits the big bend and then where it goes on the Atlantic side.

Johnson grass spreads via underground rhizomes. Fire isn’t an effective control method.

I try and use the NOAA buoys for info but half of them don’t work because the govt. owns them and everything they do gets screwed up. NOAA a perfect example.
One that does work is out of Key West and it shows
ENE winds form 21-26 knots,25-30 mph with a barometer of 29.80 down from 29.90 yesterday.
