Why Isn’t the Economy the Issue?
PowerLine ^ | 8/27/2016 | John Hinderaker

At the New York Post, Carl Campanile and Danika Fears make a good point: “Hillary, Trump too busy insulting each other to focus on Obama’s weak economy.”

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are too busy trading barbs on hot-button topics like race and immigration to discuss the economy, which has slowed to a crawl under President Obama’s watch.

“The numbers are bad. There should be a concern about the weakness in the economy,” said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a former director of the Congressional Budget Office.

“I would have thought that the economy would be at the center of the presidential campaign. Instead we’re hearing about which candidate is more racist. It’s crazy. It’s sad.”

How bad is the Obama economy?

Commerce Department figures released Friday show that real GDP increased by a mere 1.1 percent annualized rate in the second quarter of 2016.

Barack Obama will leave office as the only president never to have witnessed a single year in which GDP growth hit 3%. Democrats tell us this is the “new normal,” that we should forget about the kind of growth that until Obama came along, we regarded as routine.

In 1992, Bill Clinton announced that “It’s the economy, stupid.” That was pretty much the sole theme of his campaign. He ludicrously claimed that the country was then experiencing “the worst economy since the Great Depression,” a lie that the press, to its everlasting shame, not just allowed but often endorsed. So what was the level of GDP growth that Clinton relentlessly denigrated?

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the quarterly growth numbers for 1992, in chained 2009 dollars, were 4.8%, 4.5%, 3.9% and 4.1%. That’s right–the growth that Bill Clinton derided as the “worst economy since the Great Depression” was around four times what we are now seeing under Barack Obama. And Hillary Clinton promises to continue Obama’s anti-growth policies.

By rights, the election should be over. The Democrats’ chronically lousy economy should guarantee that the next occupant of the White House will be a Republican. Unfortunately, that isn’t the way things are turning out.

The media is ignoring the poor economy and forecasts. They have covered for Obama for 8 years so why would they change now. Remember how often we heard about the “Bush economy” when Obama was running.

The economy is an issue for most Americans, but not for the media. Hillary is Obama’s third term and if voters think the economy sucks the reporters don’t want to report it. It hurts her and helps Trump.

The economy is just fine for those on the government teat, stupid.

He should discuss how she doesn’t know about the economy more. He’s made comments about her not being up to negotiating with China. We can’t just talk about the economy. That didn’t work for Mitt Romney.

It will be eventually. He may want to get the clearer issues nailed down first. There is still a lot of questions and ambiguity surrounding Trump trade policies.

There are many factors that cause problems with the economy and I think one of those factors is definitely the illegal immigrants.

If Trump can’t make this election about Hilary, and the Democrat economy, he’s going to lose. The media, including the conservative media won’t help him.

He’s going to have to use paid advertising, and then hammer Hilllary during the debates, and hang this anemic recovery around her neck.

The economy, and illegal immigration. Those are the core issues. Everything else is peripheral.

The economy is not an issue for similar reasons to there not being any homeless right now.

With a Republican incumbent, the economy would be tanking and the streets would be filled with the homeless.

Because all the unemployed are collecting government checks.

The MSM continues to tell us how great things are, and they’ll keep saying it until there’s a Republican in the White House. Like Obama saying the world’s never been more at peace. It’s Orwellian.

Actually I’ve heard Trump tell us what he’ll do when he’s in the Oval Office. The first thing, rid of us nobama’s illegal laws, obamascare, follow the law involving illegal immigrants, vet applicants to this country, lower taxes on the us citizens and business, build the wall.

He also debunked shrillery’s appearance on tv about his
lack of respect to Blacks and Hispanics. Shoot, he’s probably paid more Blacks and Hispanics over the years, and even right now, than shrillery will ever pay.

The “Lackey media”, is on the payroll of Soros and foreign money to try and confuse us “poor” Informed citizens in the Fly Over Country. The lackeys just follow what they are told to talk about. Watch what each lackey talks about, then go to the next station and that lackey will be saying the same thing as the last. We have few, if any, “news broadcasters”, they just plagiarize one another. If anyone wants the news, come to FR.

same as shrillery did in her tv appearance last week.

Go from one station or written piece to another and all the “news” is the same, almost word for word. They plagiarize one another, nothing original.
