Trucks and buses in the United States may have to be equipped with devices to limit their speed under a proposed rule issued on Friday by the U.S. Transportation Department which said the move could save both lives and fuel.
The department will weigh setting speed limits at 60, 65 or 68 miles per hour for heavy commercial vehicles, but said it will consider other speeds based on comments from the public.

First Truck or Bus that can’t get around a vehicle they are trying to pass in time, because the driver wouldn’t let them and this device helped prevent them...
Good luck.
But what if I’m being chased by a car with Muslims that want to show me how to use a scimitar on my own head? Once again the regulators ont think anything through to their full conclusion. One where in all this they will make money. That always part of the equation and why I never trust the idiots who want to enforce this on other’s but exempt themselves. That will also happen - guaranteed.
Great, now when they pull out to pass each other with a .5 mph speed difference, they will jam things up much worse...
Jimmy Carter rides again.
The government does not trust you to think for yourself
so
The government will think for you.
and
you WILL agree.
OBEY!
The move could save both lives and fuel.
The department will weigh setting speed limits at 60, 65
That Lie has ready tried on US for our cars.
That would certainly limit the desirability of new stuff, wouldn’t it...
Will not survive First Contact with the Teamsters
can the state opt-out ?
If so, will they lose road fund ?
How can the feds set the speed limit for trucks traveling on state toll roads ?
Some trucks already do. Werner trucks are speed limited for sure.

Why would you think this? Look at all the union jobs that have been killed for gorebull warming.
This is all about getting us to a point where the roads basically become a means of public transportation where we bring our cars on-route, set a destination, and the computers will bring us where we want to go.
I see a lucrative potential market for Speed Limit Defeaters.
This U.S. Transportation Department only has a few months left
I spend time in both California and Colorado.
The former discourages trucks in the left lane and truck at speed limit driving. The latter, anything goes.
It is disconcerting to be passed by huge trucks at almost any speed.
And just what authority do they cite for interfering with states rights?
is there a plan to cut back on Policing ?
Program the bus for 60 and let a buzzer go off....but control the car....that's nuts.
You might need extra speed someday to avoid a collision.
The “Funding Authority”....aka...Do what we say or scr** you.
