Here we go.

Judging from the attitude exhibited by the local county GOPe executive board and other insiders, they are going to fight tooth and claw to maintain the current system. They only represent a couple of percent of the voting population, but they still run the machine.

CO has to vote to return to democracy? They actually have to have a vote?!

The first vote should be to vote all of them out of office. All of them.

Two different initiatives:

Having a primary = ok.

Having non-Republicans voting in Republican primary = NOT OK.

The open vs. closed primary issue has many people in an uproar; but it's sort of a red herring, for two reasons:
  1. Primaries in Colorado are already virtually open. As long as you plan 30 days before the primary, you can log on to your account at the secretary of state's website and switch your registration, and then switch it back after the primary is over. This only takes a couple of minutes—less time than reading and marking the ballot.

  2. I spoke with the elections departments of a couple of states that have open primaries about whether "Operation Chaos" voters have been a problem. They say there are presumably some people doing this, but not enough to have any noticeable effect.

The law defines how the primary happens, so, yeah, we need to change the law.
