Attorneys Say Attack By Female Inmates Led To Death Of 26-Year-Old Madison Deal

Attorneys Tom O'Neal and Bryan Hoss said Monday that 26-year-old Madison Deal's death was caused by an attack by female inmates at the county workhouse and by inadequate medical care by the Corrections Corporation of America (CCA).

District Attorney Neal Pinkston has asked for an investigation by the Sheriff's Office into the death of Ms. Deal.

A spokesperson for the sheriff said a preliminary autopsy found the death was related to a medical problem and did not involve "physical trauma."

The attorneys said, "On Wednesday, Aug. 10, Madison Deal, 26, of Chattanooga, turned herself into the Hamilton County Jail for a misdemeanor citation. Because she had failed to do three public work days, she was sent to CCA Silverdale.

"Two days later, on Friday, Madison was attacked by other inmates in her cell, all subject to video camera surveillance. Silverdale had actual knowledge of this attack because it was on video and because Silverdale segregated the attackers.

"Madison spoke to her mother, Lee Anne, via video conference on both Saturday and Monday. Madison reported that she told Silverdale of the attack and sought medical treatment at Silverdale. Madison said she told nurses at Silverdale that she was vomiting, had tightness in her chest and severe head pain.

"According to her mother, her condition worsened. After Madison's worsening condition on Monday, and hearing from Madison that the nurses at Silverdale were not treating her, Lee Anne Deal called Silverdale and pleaded with officials to give her daughter proper medical care. According to Lee Anne, the nurse at Silverdale hung up on her.

I am going to assume, which is dangerous, but we know our jails are very “diverse” and I am guessing the “diverse” population killed this young white woman...

Even in today’s United States of America, prisons can be very dangerous places to live. These are places that often operate by their own rules, laws and consequences. Would not be surprised if she was beaten by minorities who have been raised to hate whites, yet presume they are all powerful just by being white. Somebody was jealous of somebody else for some reason. Maybe jealous that she was about to leave that horrid place behind.

Maybe so, or maybe not, but what disturbs me is that there are some "Law & Order" types who are OK with stuff like this.

Madison Deal could have been any one of us who, due to some minor scrape with the law, end up spending a night or two in jail— just long enough to be assaulted by inmates and then sentenced to die by callous medical personnel, after pleas from multiple people.

If the facts resemble anything like how they've been presented by the Deal camp, then someone new should end up behind bars as a result of a new crime.

Inexcusable and inhuman. It's the kind of thing that makes my blood boil...

Who was the prison nurse who kept hanging up on Madison’s family? I was waiting for that person to be identified and questioned. I know that jail is not supposed to be like Summer Camp, but when they can spend tens of thousands to change Bill into Jill, and back again, there should be enough money for general health care.

“The nurse at Silverdale hung up on her.” Criminals in and running the prison.

If I had to go into prison, I would ask for solitary.

Wouldn’t bother me a bit.

Any situation is what you make of it. Adjust to it and accept it.

I would not want to have to join/not join gangs and have to deal with different groups demanding things from you.

Just put me in a 4 x 8 by myself and toss away the key.

Just the prison trying to avoid an expensive lawsuit.

(from the article):" Madison Deal, 26, of Chattanooga, turned herself into the Hamilton County Jail for a misdemeanor citation.
Because she had failed to do three public work days, she was sent to CCA Silverdale."

Madison turned herself in to Hamilton Co Jail - run by the local sheriff, a legal LEO .
She was transferred to CCA Silverdale - CCA is a privately owned business , for profit , Correctional Facility (AKA: prison)
No wonder why the FED wants to eliminate the use of privately owned, for profit facilities to house inmates, as there are numerous complaints of inadequate care and housing.
Hopefully, she had a hearing before a judge prior to her transfer to Silverdale, with judicial determination, since no one should be housed in a prison for a misdemeanor !
If no hearing occurred, those are grounds for a massive lawsuit .

Be that nurse's name Lateesha, Marqueesa, or some such?

That’s my plan. In solitary, and on my best behaviour, I might get a tv set.

You’d have to do a lot more than ask to get AdSeg. Probably be easier to get a carry permit in Compton.

A for profit prison. There should be no such thing. There should be no profit motive in keeping people as prisoners. When there are profits to be made there is incentive to put and keep people in jail. Imprisonment for crimes committed is a legitimate function of government. It is not supposed to be an industry.

The medical staff in jails are the very dregs of the field who cannot get hired at normal doctor’s practices or hospitals. A lot of fat broads with tattoos which go up their damn necks and can’t be hidden. If a person needs regular medications, it will be weeks before they get them and, even then, they’re going to substitute what they want to give you, not what the doctor prescribed.

I’d settle for a pencil and paper to draw pictures, schematics, or other things I’d think up. I’d write.

I could fill up my time nicely.
