He did the right thing. However, it appears that nowadays they stand at attention differently than when I served (1970-1974). In my day, when we stood at attention we stood still, no fidgeting, no looking around. Times change, I guess. When I served we didn’t promote transgenders to command positions, either; hell, we didn’t even have such creatures.
I think he was looking around for the flag. That’s a big stadium and he probably he trouble locating where the medal ceremony was taking place. The look on his face seemed to suggest that he was wanting to find the flag and not biding his time in a fidgety manner so he could get back to his event.
