Yet Another Regrettable Outcome of the 2016 Election: Divorce

Get this: According to The New York Times, some wives are threatening to divorce their husbands if the fellows vote for Donald Trump.

The Times featured one couple, a male dentist and a female a doctor, who had never talked much about politics before. When the wife learned her husband was for Trump, she threatened to divorce him and move to Canada.

Sheesh. It makes one long for the good old days when a fellow had to run off with a cocktail waitress before his wife called in the lawyers.

The Federalist shared some interesting insights on The Times article. Journalist Denise C. McAllister argues that in 2016, "you are who you vote for."

"Why are voters not merely being associated with Trump, but actually and essentially being identified with him, sharing the same characteristics of racism and sexism that have been attached to him (justified or not)?" she writes.

And why, she ponders, do some voters who loathe Trump for what they perceive to be his negative characteristics give Hillary Clinton a free pass with hers?

Hillary does have a long history of habitually telling tale tales. She failed to be a good feminist by aggressively attacking the women her husband was caught having dalliances with. Even an ardent Hillary supporter has to concede that she used her power in the State Department to dole out favors in return for massive contributions to the foundation she and her husband own.

"Looking at Clinton's sordid history of political and personal corruption, we have a profile of a person who is deeply untrustworthy, selfish and motivated by money, not the general welfare of American citizens," writes McAllister. "Yet little, if any, stigma is attached to those who are voting for her."

So why is Trump getting hit so hard whereas Hillary is largely given a free pass? McAllister argues that it is a reflection of the pathetic state of our culture.

"In our society, the Left has effectively shifted our culture's values away from traditional morals to a specified group of behaviors they deem intolerable above any other," she writes. "The new commandments are: Thou shalt not be a racist. Thou shalt not be a sexist. Thou shalt not be a homophobe. Anything else is acceptable."

Being a middle-aged Caucasian male with libertarian leanings, I know I'd be wise to not comment on this matter. But McAllister offers some compelling points.

Free and open societies are supposed to talk freely and openly about common issues and ideas ---- but a fellow can be run out of town on a rail if he is on the "wrong" side of an issue or holds the "wrong" idea.

Too many of our universities, which were founded to foster free and open debate in the pursuit of truth, are now in the indoctrination business. Rather than teaching students how to think, too many are teaching them what to think.

Ironically, it is because of the politically correct groupthink that has infected our culture that Trump became the Republican nominee.

Time and again, during the primaries, he outmaneuvered the groupthink tactics that destroyed many Republicans before him. Many found Trump's anti-PC persona refreshing.

He's faltering in the general election, however, and one of the reasons is that lots of otherwise well-educated and thoughtful human beings see him as the devil incarnate at the same time they're able to look blindly beyond Hillary's peccadilloes.

So if you're a husband who plans to vote for Trump, you better lie about it ---- unless you want your wife to divorce you and move to Canada.

“And probably half of the 31% of those divorces that the men initiated was probably the result of the women being a total bitch until the men cry uncle and divorces her like she secretly wanted, but doesn’t want to be the initiator, and then puts on a act like “wow I never saw it coming” innocent act.”

Exactly. From my experience, when a man comes to me to take his case and file for divorce for him, he is usually down to his last nickel, battling substance abuse from the marriage, or is getting ready to check himself into a mental health facility.

I had a case where a woman had committed three verified instances of adultery and run up 125k in unsecured credit card debt behind the husband’s back.

She got half of everything, he had to pay half of the credit card, and she got alimony. The kicker, alimony is supposed to end once she remarried or cohabited. She did neither. She simply partied like a college freshman and had a kid out of wedlock.

Beware of marriage young men.

I can promise you that is not the case. A divorce generally equal a financial death sentence for the man.

I don’t see how anyone can be close friends with anyone whose values are so different than their own, much less marry them.

Some people change over time. There's no marriage involved in this story, but had the voting age been one year lower, I would've voted for a Democrat for president. (I don't imagine that if I were married at that age, though, I would've threatened divorce over differences in how we voted.) I changed markedly enough over the next four years, and I've never happily voted for a Democrat for anything.

In nearly 30 years of marriage, my wife and I have voted together but we have never once disclosed who we are voting for. I assume she votes the same as me but I'll never know for sure.

And it's better that way, believe me.

If I were a man and my wife threatened to divorce me over a political vote, I’d counterthreat with shutting off her credit card accounts to Macys and Amazon and spending every penny in savings on a boat. Joint vacations? nope - off fishing with the buddies instead. Running off to Canada? fine, that hard-working attractive church-going widow waitress down at the diner working to put her kids thru college needs a good husband...Cowboy up, instead of acting like spinach-deficient Popeyes letting a woman Bluto control their vote. No wonder our country is in the crapper.

she threatened to divorce him and move to Canada.

If that's the way the harridan feels, he should consider it a blessing that she's offering to self-extricate from his life.

My grandparents in Omaha always told the story of how their neighbors threatened to move to Canada if Truman got elected 1948. They supported Dewey and stated their strong “either/or” ultimatum. After the election they stayed in Omaha.

Not in this house. If anything, I’m more to the right than Hubby. And he’s a three sigma outlier.

Political disagreements are frivolous at best.

Frivolous grounds for divorce should result in zero alimony or property split and no child custody.

He's kicking her @ss Lord, let it be so. That said, I haven't got a lot of enthusiasm for Trump the man. But Trump the President? I can certainly live with that!

This is the key statement. The Leftists hate the behavioral restrictions of Christianity, especially those limiting sex to married heterosexual couples. So the Left gets rid of those commandments, but they substitute their own political stands as being the new morality, so the Leftists can feel good about themselves and morally superior to conservatives who don't hold those political views.
In other words, Leftists have taken down God's commandments and substituted their own. Leftists like to act like they are God. That was the sin of Lucifer and that is the primary sin of Leftists.

1.) Find out who your wife is voting for.
2.) Tell her you’re voting for the same.
2a.) Lie, if necessary.
3) Vote for whomever you damn well please.
3a.) SHUT UP about this — forever.

Better plan:

1) Tell your wife you are voting for Trump
2) If she freaks out, tell her too bad.
3) If she leaves, good riddance
4) Party down

Best plan:
1) apologize and swear to vote for Hillary, claim you have been stressed and you actually just need a hug.
2)vote for Trump
3) Hide and hoard money and assets
4) do the legal prep work for a divorce
5) Unleash divorce on some random day. Suddenly, without warning, like the “panzers through Poland” suddenly.
6) Feel zero guilt because she already told you she will divorce you for a trivial reason.
7) find her hottest friend and have fun.
8) dump friend, party down.
9) Do anything you want...

Dentists? Bah.

Mere technicians, just like engineers (me, for example) and everybody else who doesn’t have a degree in English, sociology, gender or race studies, or similar disciplines so necessary for building a civilized, just, and equal social structure led by the beneficent and kindly leaders who know better than we do what it is that we need.

And what they can take away for their own use.

When the wife learned her husband was for Trump, she threatened to divorce him and move to Canada.

If I were him, I'd say "Good Riddance" to the shrew.

Mrs WBill and I occasionally disagree on politics. It's of little importance, though. And, if I thought for one minute that she'd divorce me over something as foolish as politics, then I'd tell her to spare me the wait and just do it right now.

60% of those involve Facebook in some way, shape or form.

Back in the 70s-80s I seem to recall the same sort of statistic about Cosmo.

“I would imagine there are an equal number of men threateing to divorce their wives if the latter vote for Hillary Clinton.”

Men don’t normally do emotional blackmail like that. That’s chick behavior.
