American journalism is collapsing before our eyes

By Michael Goodwin

August 21, 2016

Donald Trump may or may not fix his campaign, and Hillary Clinton may or may not become the first female president. But something else happening before our eyes is almost as important: the complete collapse of American journalism as we know it.

The frenzy to bury Trump is not limited to the Clinton campaign and the Obama White House. They are working hand in hand with what was considered the cream of the nation’s news organizations.

The shameful display of naked partisanship by the elite media is unlike anything seen in modern America.

The largest broadcast networks — CBS, NBC and ABC — and major newspapers like the New York Times and Washington Post have jettisoned all pretense of fair play. Their fierce determination to keep Trump out of the Oval Office has no precedent.

Indeed, no foreign enemy, no terror group, no native criminal gang suffers the daily beating that Trump does. The mad mullahs of Iran, who call America the Great Satan and vow to wipe Israel off the map, are treated gently by comparison.

By torching its remaining credibility in service of Clinton, the mainstream media’s reputations will likely never recover, nor will the standards. No future producer, editor, reporter or anchor can be expected to meet a test of fairness when that standard has been trashed in such willful and blatant fashion.

Liberal bias in journalism is often baked into the cake. The traditional ethos of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable leads to demands that government solve every problem. Favoring big government, then, becomes routine among most journalists, especially young ones.

The media has clearly favored the democrats for as long as I can remember (which goes back to 1968). But even while their reporting was slanted, they tried to maintain a facade of objectivity.

I think 2000-2008 was when it fundamentally changed. They thought their normal powers of persuasion would be enough to win Gore the White House, but lost barely. I think their reaction was to be incensed that they could not carry the election for their guy. So in 2004 they went a little farther in cheerleading for John Kerry, but he was such a stiff that they couldn’t make the sale to the American public.

In 2008, they had their perfect storm; an “historic” candidate, who had concealed his past, opposed by an over the hill cardboard cut-out of a Senator, during an election where the voters wanted a change of direction. Part of that desire for change was in the onset of the recession, part had been ginned up by the media themselves over the previous four years. It was their best chance to see if they could be completely partisan without even lip-service to the facade of objectivity and not get called on it by the public.

They got away with it. From 2008 on, they haven’t even pretended to hide their bias because the past eight years proved they don’t have to.

If you want reasonably honest coverage, you have to turn to foreign sources who have no dog in this particular fight, if you can find some.

Or conservative sources, keeping in mind that they usually also have an axe to grind. Multiple sources are an absolute requirement.

If Jeb Bush or any other of the 16 GOP primary also-rans had become the nominee instead of Trump, they would be getting the same treatment from the media.

The difference is that Trump hits back. Any of the others (except, maybe, Cruz) would have been steamrollered into submission with unanswered accusations of 'racist' or 'misogynist' months ago.

Yes many of us do our homework and find rare news stories telling the truth.

However the bottom line is that the Sheeple are who the MSM are feeding the propaganda to and the Sheeple eat it up.

If Trump loses the election, he can still win by starting his own media and broadcasting corporation. TNN - Trump News Network. It’s the only way I see to counter the media machine.

It’s American Tass. The Democrats are the government party, regardless of who sits in the White House. They have to be treated the same way the Soviet politburo was treated in the days leading up to the collapse of the Soviet Union. The US and Western Europe have become the Soviet Union. Trump is our Yeltsin.

1978 graduate, California state university, degree in journalism. Professor Suttoff would be appalled. He taught us straight journalism — not this American version of Pravda.

Yesterday, ABC radio news on the hour reported that Trump was attempting to go after the black vote—and helpfully added that it was at a rally in a small, nearly-all-white town.

I take issue with the author. It’s not collapsing. It’s already collapsed.

Just like the Republican Party became extinct decades ago imo, patriots fooled by RINOs, the “conservative” front-end of the corrupt Washington cartel, for the longest time, American journalism long ago became the propaganda machine for the corrupt cartel.

Folks, when the corrupt feds and the media discuss anything about domestic policy outside the scope of the US Mail Service (1.8.7), you can bet that what the feds and the media are saying is unconstitutional and be right probably most of the time.

Remember in November !

Patriots need to support Trump / Pence by also electing a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will not only work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers to support Trump’s vision for making America great again for everybody, but will put a stop to unconstitutonal federal taxes and likewise unconstitutional inteference in state affairs.

Note that such a Congress will also probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.

Sadly, it has been oddly appropriate over the last few years.

"The Ministry of Propaganda has been the Ministry of Propaganda for many years. We haven’t had journalism in this country for decades."

“Liars Are Us” is not only a tag that can legitimately be worn by Barack Obama and his handpicked replacement but one that should identify a mainstream media that is keeping Hillary Clinton leading most polls."

”The propaganda going on in today’s MSM would make Goebbels proud. It’s absolutely outrageous the slander and libel going on everyday against Trump, and people of ALL political persuasions should be outraged. If politicians were able to sue these slime bags for slander and libel Trump would have made himself another 10 billion by now. How outrageous is it that the media completely ignored the fact that the DNC celebrated the mother of an attempted cop killer and instead chose to focus on the lesser story of Trump questioning why a woman didn’t speak. So attempted cop killers - Good. Asking a question - BAD!” posted on 8/13/2016, 7:04:57 AM by GrandJediMasterYoda

They need to be rounded up and put against a wall.

Amazing how that sounds so necessary now.

It's beyond ridiculous.

According to my research at that time, the media reported Florida won by Gore before the polls had closed in the panhandle, a reliably Republican voting bloc.

It was conjectured by Lee Rodgers [RIP] that this depressed voter turnout after work hours, and caused the entire recounting debacle.

I personally believe that the media created that whole crisis: If they had not deliberately called Florida prematurely to bolster Gore, then Bush would have won outright, and the Left would not have been able to fabricate so many weapons against the Right.

(Full disclosure: I very reluctantly voted for Bush in that election, but I very eagerly demonstrated for his validation as president.)

Yeah.

I am ceaselessly amazed by the #NeverTrump posters who gleefully predict Trump losing, and viciously blame Trump supporters for creating this anticipated disaster...

... as though McCrook McCain and RINO Romney, establishment darlings of the #NeverTrump crowd, won in consecutive landslides!
