If You Don’t Want Police To Shoot You, Don’t Resist Arrest (not breaking news, but forever relevant)
The Federalist ^ | July 11, 2016 | John Gibbs

Posted on 08/21/2016 6:32:07 PM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

"Every time I hear of a black man being killed by the cops, he’s almost always a criminal thug I have no desire to defend." -- John Gibbs

It saddens me that what little is left of the black civil rights movement is spent defending thugs, hustlers, drug dealers, and troublemakers such as Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Alton Sterling, and Philando Castile. Can you believe we’ve gone from honorable causes like fighting for the right of black people to attend college to defending black criminals who foolishly mouth off against, run away from, and fight with the police; police who are putting their lives on the line to protect us from criminals?

Can’t the protestors at least defend young black men of honor, quiet heroes going against the grain by wearing their pants around their waist; refusing thuggery, weed-smoking, and hustling; those who marry one woman, have all their kids with that one woman, proactively raise those kids to be successful, productive citizens, and love only their wife and no other woman; those who work an honest job with integrity, intensity, and discipline, no matter how menial the work? (Note: selling illegal cigarettes on the street or bootleg CDs on the corner doesn’t count as honest work!)

If a protest were held against the oppression of such young black men, I’d be the first to join in. Yet every time I hear of a black man being killed by the cops, he’s not the man I just described. He’s almost always a criminal thug I have no desire to defend. Hardly our best, and hardly what Dr. King died for.

You see, unlike those men recently shot, I do not fear for my life from the police. Quite the contrary, my life is made safer by the police who stand between me and people like Sterling, who is much more likely to break into my car or stick me up at night compared to any harm that might come to me from a police officer. The fact is, the police are not shooting black men like me. Why? Because I am not a criminal, and when the police stop me, I politely do what they say, and they leave me alone. I do not run away, fight back, or mouth off. It’s really pretty simple.

Why is no one asking how these men’s families and communities failed them so badly that they became criminals or thugs? If you look up “tough” in the dictionary, my grandmother’s picture will come up. If you were raised under her and acted up, after she got done with you you’d wish the police had gotten to you first. I’m glad my father was raised in such an environment. Discipline happens in the home, and it starts early. When it doesn’t, the police are left to clean up the mess of deeply broken human beings who were already doomed before their first interaction with the law. It’s totally unfair to ask the police to treat hardened criminals with kid gloves.

How did we get here? The Welfare Industrial Complex has produced generational government dependence that has devastated black families and communities and created the criminal underclass of black thugs the police are killing today. I wonder what Black Lives Matter has to say about that? Will they unequivocally call for an end to the welfare, food stamps, and government subsidized housing that have replaced the black father, and thus return the role of family provider to the black man where it belongs, not the government?

Will they call for a complete end to illegal immigration and to burdensome regulations and taxes that make hiring Americans too expensive? After all, these things reduce wages, increase unemployment, and harm the ability of young black men to get jobs that provide for a family. My guess: don’t hold your breath. It’s just so much easier to blame the police, white privilege, and institutionalized racism.

Yet amid all the hype, let us not lose sight of reality: No matter how much the media attempts to stir up racial strife, the fact is about 70 black people are killed by other black folks for every one killed by a white police officer. White police killings of black people are simply a non-issue compared to what black people do to each other, unfortunately.

So no, despite the prevailing atmosphere of hysteria, I’m not afraid of being killed by the police. Quite the contrary: sadly, the data shows I’m much more likely to be victimized by a fellow black man than by a white police officer. So may the police remain sharp, aggressive, and strike fear into criminals so the good people don’t become victims.

You’re reading WAY more into his “my grandmother was tough” remark than I am. I think he’s just commenting that parents used to parent, and now they don’t.

Nobody understands what he means. Most of his posts make no sense.

He is a pot stirrer, taking the contrary position on EVERY. SINGLE. ISSUE. I have ever seen him post on.

It’s like he just likes to hear himself talk and cause trouble for the attention.

Read his posting history and you’ll see.

Our legal system is WAY better than most. I know of many countries where when a person goes toe-to-toe with LEO they have to simply leave. Under cover of night.

The US as a whole has a good legal system. For the first thing, you’re innocent until proven guilty. People don’t realize how rare that is on the planet.

The biggest issue is that the poor, who are the major occupiers of the legal system, are hit with fines and deadlines that they simply can’t make. We have to ease up in one way or another.

I mean I no longer make a ton of money. In fact, I make about as much as a Walmart “associate” now. And when my BMW needs brakes I can take a $400 hit. It sucks, but it’s there. But when I get a moving violation it puts me in financial ruin. And if I don’t pay it in a small amount of time, the fines and fees run up very quickly. Ultimately I’m not left with squeaky brakes - I’m left with a short jail sentence. And then work is lost, reputation is shot, I grow my hair and start selling stolen radios out of the back of my truck to feed my family.

It all goes downhill. The court fee system does far more bad than good.

BTW I am a systems analyst with clients in LEO, Courts and Bail. I have designed and built a bail enforcement product that is groundbreaking. I will report to the Magistrate tomorrow with my court / city hall credentials and he’ll say “Hey Steve!” and I’m sure I’ll go scot-free. Then I’ll go to the state representative’s office (Who I also know from the Chamber, civic organizations and municipal projects that I’ve worked on) and he’ll help me out as best he can.

But I always think : What if I was a poor person who didn’t have the gumption to make these sorts of connections ? What if I were a recently divorced single mother with no support team around me ? What if I lost my job, parked my car until I could find another, and needed to not only pay back bills but get my car re-legal with a single or two paychecks ? It’s not possible !

I think he was just saying that if he disobeyed his grandmother, she was tougher than the police.

You're right. It wasn't hard to figure out.

I got a laugh out of it too.

Now this is something that I’m trying very hard to phrase correctly with the crew here at FR, and with right-wing folks in general.

I try to explain how people hate the police to people who merely dismiss them as idiots and morons.

The poor only have a problem with police because they lack the ability (Talent, skill, intelligence or simply face-to-face capability) to take their viewpoint to the masses.

They are generally low-IQ people who can’t muster the proper way to deal with issues in a civilized society of .. what... 3 billion people ?

So they take it out on the extended arm of the problem - The boys in blue.

The poor (read: most black people) don’t hate cops for reasons of race. They hate cops because the cop is the one who has to leave the ivory tower and deal with the lumpen proletariat. They are the ones who are shoved into the line of fire - the ones who hit the streets and deal with the unruly, degenerate serfs.

Those people have a problem with the ENTIRE system. They feel that they “can’t” make a better life for themselves because when they get a job at McDonalds, work for 8 weeks to afford a $500 car they’ll only have to work another 8 weeks to afford insurance and plates. When they get pulled over, the situation is worse because the fines easily cost more than the car. And they will get pulled over because they drive shitty cars with parts hanging off and a backseat of people who are turning to them for rides.

But the truth is that it’s very hard for most americans to make it these days. The rules have changed and every generation is faced with problems that are significantly different than the ones from the previous generation.

They aren’t angry at cops. They know the buck doesn’t stop nor start with cops. The cops are the enforcers of the ridiculous and pretzel-logic entrapment fines and fees and SOP from the courts. THAT is the problem.

The cop gets the brunt of the attack because they can’t reach the courts and the lawmakers to affect that change. And it may be because they are too uneducated to properly string the words together to do so. But either way, when they say they are trapped - to them, they believe that.

If you can't make it in this country, you're not going to make it anywhere else.

If you think you can drop out of school, do drugs, work at McDonalds and yet afford an Escalade and a big screen tv - you are seriously lacking in IQ points.

I have to see a Magistrate tomorrow about an expired inspection sticker.... Oh, and I received a letter that there is a bench warrant for me because I didn’t respond in time too.

Too bad your name isn't Jose. You could be falling over drunk, driving on the wrong side of the highway, abusing a 12 year old - and you would be home free. Even if you killed someone, drove with no insurance, no license and no registration - NO PROBLEMO!

In many areas, but not mine.

It’s a shame my state is such a vile viper pit because my county is awesome. I love my county.

But you may have seen the Kentucky thread down below - My state of PA has Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in it and I’m sick... we’re all sick ... of those towns making policy and treating us like a leper colony.

The State election maps in 2012 put us blue. The county maps are ALL red except you guessed it - Philly and Pitt. Those two ridiculous towns make the policy by which we have to comply and it’s getting to be too much. This place is little New Jersey these days.

Thanks.

The system will work for me, just as it always does. But I have an IQ and know how to speak to the courts.

There are a lot of people who are just less intelligent, and often because of that are more angry. And angry stupid is why when they get in trouble with the law they throw rocks and burn auto parts stores.

Intelligent and patient is why I take the sheriff out to lunch and we talk shop while I never held a badge in my entire life.

It’s all in the approach and the uneducated tend to lash out and scream incoherently when they feel wronged. The intelligent seek to understand, and be understood.

For many in the world, the LEO/People thing is seen as a racial thing. But it truly is NOT. It’s all about how the under educated view the world around them, and how they lack the ability to form sentences and conversations that help build bridges.

Because Jose would have half the lawyers in the country drooling to take his case.

It’s a system that has long ceased to be about the average citizen. It’s elite police on one hand, and lawyers on the other hand.

How about that I point out things that you do not like to hear? Everyone has an internal censor. Few learn to quiz that censor.
