The trouble with such glibness is that God has put “to love mercy” in His lists of non-negotiables. And God does not want us to perpetually starve souls of that in the name of pretending to love that.

being merciful toward some one does not mean always restoring everything to them that they chose to lose with their action that caused the felony.
just as another poster responded about what about those actually harmed or killed by the convict? how is the debt to them ever truly paid?
God’s mercy toward each of us does not always (or even usually) mean we get to restart as if we never did something to need His mercy. In my life many times, God’s mercy means I get to try again from where I am at now after I made a mess of or poor choice in a situation - the mercy is I get another chance, BUT not the same chance as prior to my poor choice.
I don’t see how a convict not being able to vote is perpetually starving a soul of mercy. They are free out of jail, able to make the best of their life. Like Chuck Colson did and so many others I know of who came out of jail and did wonderful positive and impactful things to touch others in a meaning full way and leave a good example with their lives.
Evidently each state decides which convicts get voter right back- something I did not know until reading comments here. Fun to learn some thing new everyday.

Trump has no intention of pandering for the black vote... no one can offer more ‘goodies’ than democrats BECAUSE democrats WANT BLACKS DEPENDENT.
What Trump is saying to blacks is ‘look at the condition of the black community - then decide if you want more of that kind of help... High unemployment, high crime, bad schools etc.
Trump’s doing it right... and NO ... he does NOT have to appeal to black criminals. He’s making his appeal to the whole black community...

I try to put emotion and “fairness” aside when looking at things, since they truly don’t carry weight long distance. Rather look at facts, existing laws and the like since that is where truth usually is.

I see he uses Executive Orders like his pal Obama. How is this allowed after the state Supreme Court struck it down? How can he be allowed to use an executive order on something this big? That's too much power - literally the power to influence an election.
