Eighteen-year-old waitress Sadie Elledge was working the lunch shift at Jess Lunch, in Harrisonburg, Virginia when a couple, in lieu of a tip, left a message on their receipt that said, We only tip citizens. Sadie, whose father was born in Honduras and mother in Mexico, is, in fact, a U.S. citizen who grew up in Harrisonburg. Ive had people make comments like Go make me a burrito, but thats at school and I dont pay attention, said Sadie, adding that the insult wasnt that big a deal to her. But when her grandfather, John Elledge, heard of the incident through another one of his granddaughters, he decided he wasnt going to stand for it.

Unless she has a really thick accent (and why would she if she spent 12 years in American schools) there's no reason to believe she was mistaken for an illegal worker.
and nothing on the TOTAL line??? so how much was charged to the card then?
“So how much was charged to the card then?”
Excellent point.
Even the customer isn’t buying it.
“How can it be considered national news that in a country of 300 million people, one of them was rude to another?”
My favorite post of the day.
The answer to that question will tell you all you ever need to know about the media, now and forevermore.
“The answer to that question will tell you all you ever need to know about the media, now and forevermore.”
Exactly.

>>>write CASH ON TABLE in the Tip Space on the bill<<<
That is a great idea.
I always try to leave a Cash Tip and I never thought to write that on the Check.
It doesnt matter whether Im Hispanic... Im still a person."
Yep. Me too. I was glad to see that this article was already marked with keyword “hoax,” so I didn’t have to add it.
Why write “cash on Table”? Give the server their tip, they
probably more than earned it.
If they aren’t around when you sign the bill, you leave the tip in cash on the table.
In some Restaurants, you pay the Bill on the way out at the Cashier rather than the Server picking it up.
Lets the Server know that you left the tip in cash, just in case it magically disappears from the Table.
SOMEONE SAID A MEAN THING ABOUT ME.
This is news?
Here in our suburb of Seattle we had a muslim gal claim that someone left a post-it not on her car. They had a photo of it in the paper.
On top, scrawled in block letters like a fourth grader might write was something like All muSLims go home.
Below it, in the same ink was something written in Arabic, in nice flowing symbols.

Above is the note.
This happened in the same city where I work as a police officer... On the same day I was working... Last Thursday. Another officer and his trainee handled this call. Got called to a disorderly at the restaurant. Other than this NOT being a police issue... Apparently the accused is also Hispanic, from what I gathered from the conversation I overheard. Gramps is an attorney here in town. EVERYBODY in town is jumping on this bandwagon... waitress is going to benefit greatly from this ...
I indicate that I have done so on the bill. I draw a line through the tip area and write cash on table.

He also worked as an executive director of a nonprofit charitable organization before working as a legislative assistant in the Virginia General Assembly and in residential and commercial real estate.
After working several years as a partner in a local law firm, John established John Elledge & Associates in 2012, where he has been successful in criminal defense at both the state and federal level, immigration (particularly in dealing with the immigration consequences of criminal charges), domestic, business, and civil litigation.
