TRUMP JUST PUT THE FEAR IN EVERY CONGRESSMAN WITH 1 EPIC PROMISE TO AMERICA
CONSERVATIVE TRIBUNE BLOG ^ | AUGUST 19, 2016 AT 1:45PM | BY: WILMOT PROVISO

For many establishment congressmen of both parties, being elected isn’t a chance to make a difference in the political life of America. It’s a sinecure that allows them to become fat off of special interest money and speaking fees.

Americans of all stripes are frustrated with this attitude, which is part of the reason why anti-establishment Donald Trump got the Republican nomination.

Now, Trump has made a huge move to end congressional sinecures and the politicos who occupy them. According to Associated Press, Trump told an audience in North Carolina that he would look into term limits for Congress if he were elected president.

Trump made the remarks Thursday afternoon while speaking before a group of local law enforcement officers in the swing state. A questioner asked the Republican nominee about it and said he wanted to “get these bums out.”

Trump gave him plenty to look forward to. He told the audience member that, “(w)e’re going to take a very serious look” at establishing term limits.

While it would take a constitutional amendment to accomplish, make no mistake — establishing term limits would arguably be the biggest accomplishment of any president since World War II.

Part of the mess we’re in as a country — especially in terms of debt, deficit and political pusillanimity — has to do with establishment politicians who hang around Washington for half a century or more.

One rarely (if ever) does this because they’re fighting for their constituents. They’re addicted to power and all that comes with it. This power, unfortunately, is often wielded at our expense, particularly when it comes to government spending.

Congress has to approve it.

By a two thirds majority in each House because it would require a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on Congress.

Government employees should be term-limited as well as reduced in numbers.

If you can pull that off, then I am for term limits. How about also requiring the automatic dissolution of each and every government agency and department every 20 years, unless specifically re-approved by Congress?

A push for Congressional term limits is far from unreasonable.

"Insanity to put it lightly"? That's the most hysterical reaction I've heard this week.

Get a grip. You just can't hold back your knee-jerk Trump-hatred, can you?

Term limits for Congressman can be debated on their merits and drawbacks, but there are certainly some potent arguments to be made in favor of them.

Are you equally overwrought with respect to Presidential term limits? Are they insanity as well?

Vote Trump!

He could look into it right now - no president has the ability to set term limits for Congress. Term limits for un-elected federal bureaucrats would be even more helpful.

As many have stated.....especially Mr. Trump.....when thinking, THINK BIG!!!

Mr. Trump WTP are with you in that corner of the ring. We have been shouting this from the rooftops for years now. Senate, Congress, all critters need a term limit if we are to keep our government honest and above board. At this time, DC is nothing more than a retirement home for elites to feed off the voters and American citizens. ENOUGH ALREADY!

Term limits will strengthen the power of staff as inexperienced newly elected representatives will need to be shown the ropes - by staff.

100% correct! In the end, the massive, unaccountable bureaucracy will amass even more power.

Noting that I will gladly Vote Trump, please consider the following.

With all due respect to Trump, term limits are not the problem imo.

More specifically, if Trump were to work with patriots and state lawmakers to politically force the corrupt Washington cartel to surrender 10th Amendment-protected state powers and uniquely associated state revenues that the cartel been stealing from the states for decades back to the states, then the states would probably have trouble finding citizens that would be willing to serve as federal lawmakers.

In other words, crooks long ago wised up to the idea that getting themselves elected as federal lawmakers to make laws to steal peoples’ money in the form of unconstitutional federal taxes is much easier than robbing banks for a living.

“Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

You are SO CORRECT our founders NEVER intended for people to serve in government for a life time!

they also never intended Government to be 50% of our economy, or it to be funded with a totally unbacked paper currency and $20 Trillion in debt.

Limit the power of the massive nanny state first, before taking even more power away from the peoples' representative body.

I agree and the time they r limited to will be even more devoted to exploiting their position. Voters need to do a better job of choosing people of character and integrity. Doubt that will happen but you can’t make enough laws to corral a Bill or Hillary for instance. You have to avoid them from the get go.

Feh. Constitutional amendments are the province of Congress and of the State Legislatures. All a President can do is blather about it.

Just like guns are not the cause of crime, unlimited terms are not the cause of corruption.

The problem is human nature...................

The article didn’t say he would “dictate” anything. “Take a look at” does not equal “dictate”. He does have the power to make it an issue and bring it to the attention of the citizens.

I think that most politicians start off wanting to make things better. After a few years of fighting for what is right, they wear down and find that it's easier and more profitable if they just go the corrupt route.

That is why term limits would be a good thing. Get them out just as they start to turn bad. Get someone new and fresh in.

I would rather see Hebrew the official language of the US so it ticks off the Muzzies.

Eventually it will supplant English as the single, global language in about 100 or so years.
