TRUMP JUST PUT THE FEAR IN EVERY CONGRESSMAN WITH 1 EPIC PROMISE TO AMERICA
CONSERVATIVE TRIBUNE BLOG ^ | AUGUST 19, 2016 AT 1:45PM | BY: WILMOT PROVISO

For many establishment congressmen of both parties, being elected isn’t a chance to make a difference in the political life of America. It’s a sinecure that allows them to become fat off of special interest money and speaking fees.

Americans of all stripes are frustrated with this attitude, which is part of the reason why anti-establishment Donald Trump got the Republican nomination.

Now, Trump has made a huge move to end congressional sinecures and the politicos who occupy them. According to Associated Press, Trump told an audience in North Carolina that he would look into term limits for Congress if he were elected president.

Trump made the remarks Thursday afternoon while speaking before a group of local law enforcement officers in the swing state. A questioner asked the Republican nominee about it and said he wanted to “get these bums out.”

Trump gave him plenty to look forward to. He told the audience member that, “(w)e’re going to take a very serious look” at establishing term limits.

While it would take a constitutional amendment to accomplish, make no mistake — establishing term limits would arguably be the biggest accomplishment of any president since World War II.

Part of the mess we’re in as a country — especially in terms of debt, deficit and political pusillanimity — has to do with establishment politicians who hang around Washington for half a century or more.

One rarely (if ever) does this because they’re fighting for their constituents. They’re addicted to power and all that comes with it. This power, unfortunately, is often wielded at our expense, particularly when it comes to government spending.

The president is not a participant in this process.

He could go as a delegate from New York.

I worry that term limits will hand the power over to the bureaucrats. Committee Staffers will have way to much power.

All it does is make the unelected bureaucracy more powerful.

Well, 90% of them need to be told "YOU'RE FIRED!" as well.

Trump, as the executive can get rid of the EPA, Department of Education, Department of Energy, and others with a stroke of the pen and a telephone call?

You are speaking of the Convention of the States option of formulating amendment proposals, not the Congressional option. That's a totally different thing.

As far as delegates to a Convention of the States, the provision of Article II Section 6 that forbids a federal officeholder from being a presidential elector would also apply to the position of delegate to such a convention. The supporters of the Convention of the States movement pretty much agree on that.

Term limits are a bad idea. It will limit people’s representation even more.

People have no effective representation now. This is not going to get any better.

Term limits reduce the amount that the politicians can steal during their time in office.

You bring up a valid point about the power of the permanent Government bureaucracy. The "Deep State" people are the ones that actually elect the politicians. Government employees should be term-limited as well as reduced in numbers.

Unless they eliminate the 30,000 permanent staffers who shuffle from congress rat to congress rat, nothing changes. The elected people are too busy raising money to write legislation. Make no mistake, our enemies are congressional staffers and agency staffers. Term limits will strengthen the power of staff as inexperienced newly elected representatives will need to be shown the ropes - by staff.

- Four 3-year terms: Congressman
- Two six-year terms: Senators
- One nine-year term: President
- One twelve-year term: SCOTUS

I agree. They make too much money, and too many benfits. Make it a part time job.

I've gone back and forth on the issue, but on balance, I'm in favor of Congressional term limits.

If a President can be term-limited, then I say go ahead and impose the same restriction on Congress...

Vote Trump!

.
This is nonsense, if that is really what he said.

Just more of what obama is doing.

A president cannot legislate, and to see what term limits do just look at the California legislature.

Insanity to put it lightly.

I hope Trump settles down and stabilizes. These hip-shots are not getting it at all.

Even if he can’t root them out in one fell swoop with term limits, he can still campaign against them individually.

You want to see fear, Have Mr Trump announce that he will NOT SIGN ANY LEGISLATION that is not read in it’s entirety on the House Floor by the Speaker Himself, for the American People.

The president has no power to dictate term limits. Congress has to approve it.
