Donald Trump Vows To Win '95 percent' of Black Vote After First Term

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump predicted during a rally Friday night that he will win 95 percent of the African-American vote after his first term in the Oval Office.

In a speech in which he made a plea for votes from the African-American community, Trump told supporters in Dimondale, Mich., that he will become the overwhelming choice of black voters in 2020.

"Look how much African-American communities have suffered under Democratic rule. To those I say the following: What do you have to lose by trying something new like Trump? What do you have to lose?" Trump openly asked.

"I say it again: What do you have to lose? What do you have to lose? You're living in poverty. Your schools are no good. You have no jobs. Fifty-eight percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?

Enter your email Signup "At the end of the four years, I guarantee you that I will get over 95 percent of the African-American vote," Trump promised the crowd.

"Because I will produce for the inner cities and I will produce for the African-Americans. And the Democrats will not produce and all they've done is taken advantage of your vote. And once the election is over, they go back to their palaces in Washington and, you know what, they do nothing for you. Remember it. So you have nothing to lose."

Notably, the prediction was not included in his prepared remarks, which were sent out to reporters midway through his speech.

According to current polling, Trump is receiving about 1 percent of the African-American vote to Hillary Clinton's 85 percent. Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson is ahead of Trump too, winning 7 percent.

Republicans have long struggled to win support from African-Americans. In 2008 and 2012, President Obama was the overwhelming winner of the African-American community, with 95 and 93 percent supporting him in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

It's the third time this week Trump has made speeches with overt appeals to African-Americans, following remarks in Milwaukee on Tuesday and Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday.

This comes nowhere close to addressing what I have seen.

It looks completely fabricated.

Get them off the Democrat plantation. A very ambitious idea.

A noble, ambitious idea.

Sorry to be a concern troll here, but so was GWB's idea of nation-building and bringing democracy to the MidEast. I think the concept was that if they tried it, they'd like it.

I always thought that Trump would do very well with the Black vote for two reasons. I think they covet his life style. And they many would rather vote for a strong looking white men than an old hag.

If you’re in a desperate situation no reason not to swing for the fences and see what happens.

“That’s more than Jesse Helms got, to judge by the precinct results published in the newspaper.”

Yet James Meredith and Rosey Grier supported him.

Mr. Trump please say this at least once a day for the next 80 days. It’s a very good question, what do blacks have to lose?

I couldn’t tell you what percent of the black vote he got (it wasn’t much anyway).

I was just citing what I remember of the precinct totals in the newspaper after the elections.

Dumb thing to say. I get the why but too many of them have the entrenched gimmefreesh1t for doing nothing mentality. They will not want to work hard to earn a little more than what they would get doing nothing when they have been raised to believe they are entitled and deserve other peoples money.

These people think they are owed reparations. They dont want to work. They want to take other folks stuff.
