Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday rejected a bill that sought to automatically register New Jerseyans to vote when they visit a Motor Vehicle Commission office to either get or renew their driver's license.
The governor went as far to mock bill's sponsors, saying in his conditional veto it should have been dubbed "The Voter Fraud Enhancement and Permission Act."
Christie rejected the bill (A1944) that would have automatically registered people when they applied for a permit, license, identification card or renewed a license unless the resident specifically chose to opt out.

How many times does someone have to register to vote? It appears that DemocRATS are registering the same schmucks every day.
Finally a thread that isn’t locked
When will people be automatically enrolled to vote when they register their gun?
In Illinois, the Democrats are fit to be tied because the Republican Governor (Bruce Rauner) vetoed a similar bill for the same reasons — it lacked provisions to deter vote fraud.
More likely you would get registered when you are fingerprinted. /s
What gun?
If people automatically become registered when they get a driver's license, then a companion voter ID law should be valid requiring the display of said ID that triggered registration. Additionally I would recommend language that states surrendering the privilege of a driving license should trigger a voter registration purge. The person could reapply for vote registration using another valid voter form of ID.
Win / win. But we all know to the left it isn't really about the convenience of voter registration that concerns them so.
All this would do is create a much larger pool of registered people to impersonate and thereby steal their votes. The likelihood is that many if not most of those registered automatically would never even realize that someone else had voted “for” them, because if you’re not motivated enough to register the normal way you’re probably pretty unlikely to vote.
I do not recall details but ONLY certain people who show up to vote will have something like “ show ID” in the voting book in the signature box, Otherwise your signature compared to the sample in voting records is all that is needed.
In Florida, I went to get a driver’s license after leaving Maryland and they registered me right then. They asked me what party and then registered me. Not sure if this is the same thing that New Jersey turned down. How would you register if not at the DMV? On-line?
Take a ticket and get to the back of the line. Our children aren’t getting quality educations either and they were here before you. I despise line breakers.
on election day a few voters will always show up believing when they changed their address with DMV, moved different city in the state or county, they thought voter registration did as well. Also some voters find they are not in the election books and say they registered through NJ DMV, but they realized they never got notified of registration.
I suppose the question is “ does NJ issues DLs to anyone regardless of citizen/alien status? If yes, then I agree with the Gov.
Here in MO, citizens or legal aliens can obtain a DL, and we have to present citizenship documentation the first time around. Of course, legal aliens can obtain DLs too, but they must also present their credentials.
I renewed my DL the other day, the clerk asked me if I was registered to vote, I said yes. I asked if she asked only US citizens that question and she answered “yes, the screen showed me that you were born in NY and presented a BC in 2003 when you obtained you original MO DL. Unless the screen shows US citizenship, we don’t ask.”
Seriously? Did you tell them to "eff off"? Why would anybody ever tell an agent of the government their political affiliation? And, why would an agent of the government want to know?
