THAT is the pink-pantied bull elephant in the living room that no one is talking about!
Sayonara, Title IX!
Title IX was the greatest thing that ever happened for women's sports! Until that went into effect, high school sports for girls were mediocre at best since there was limited opportunity to play at a college level when the parents were responsible for their education.
Title IX forced the universities to offer the same scholarship opportunities to girls as was being given to the male athletes and thus the explosion of women's sports.
I have no problem with womens' sports scholarships since these are girls with exceptional athletic abilities that will use those scholarships to get an education as opposed to the males who use colleges and universities as a stepping stone to the pros.
I have many friends whose daughters received scholarships in either softball or volleyball to universities or colleges which they would otherwise not have been able to afford...........
With that rant coming to an end, I have a solution for the universities offering scholarships to outstanding football/basketball players who are only there for their athletic ability and an attempt to be drafted into the NFL/NBA.
For each athlete under an athletic scholarship (football or basketball) who signs a contract with either an NFL or NBA team following their exit from their respective university, their scholarship obligation should require they reimburse their university for every dollar they received in housing, food and education and to be paid immediately upon receipt of their signing bonus........
