Senator Cruz stunned conservatives when he refused to endorse Donald Trump at the RNC Convention in Cleveland. This came after Cruz was thumped in the GOP primary race. Perry leads Cruz in a senate primary matchup 46% to 37%.
The Texas Tribune reported:
A new poll suggests there is at least one fellow Republican who could unseat U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018: Rick Perry.
The former Texas governor would beat Cruz by 9 percentage points, according to the forthcoming survey from the Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling. Set to be released later today, the poll found Perry would get 46 percent of the vote and Cruz 37 percent, with 18 percent saying they are not sure whom they would support.

The Lion Cruz will do just find
Fortunately since I don’t live in Texas now and don’t vision returning before 2018 it is a mental exercise for me to chose between these two. It is a hobson’s choice for different reasons. Cruz cut his own throat and tried to take down Trump
which was a stupid thing to do at the time he did it. His undermining him did much harm. Perry on the other hand talks a good game but when the chips are down he is a RINO mostly IMO. Also I cannot forget how he did a mental freeze during the 2012 campaign.
“The Lion Cruz will do just find”
“The Lion”?
That’s what libs once called another Senator named Ted. Cruz is proving to have much in common with his namesake.
I’m not in Texas; but I will NEVER vote for CRUZ again for
anything. Did in our primary. Sorry I did. That lying is
not worthy. He can lawyer for a living.
Cruz, Perry....not all that much difference at the end of the day. They’re both establishment tools.
It is impossible to be a true conservative and not support Donald Trump to defeat Hillary Clinton. The phrase loses any sense of integrity. Professional conservatives who refuse to support Donald Trump against Hillary Clinton have betrayed the republic and do not deserve to be in office any longer.
Ouch. Right smack dab between the eyes. Nice shot man.
I don’t even think Perry has said he plans to run? Trial balloon, like the Biden vs. Hillary polls last year.
Don't know about that, Tom.
IMO, many eyes have been opened WIDE for the first time. Might it be the case of the opposite phenomena? That establishment Pubbies will now be scrutinized instead of blindly accepted as "conservative"?
I guess the Trump-Effect is yet to be determined.
So Texas is stuck choosing between a dishonest sleaze (Ted) and a lackluster establishment hack (Rick).
I'm not sure who to root for here. I find Perry much more likable and honest, but Cruz is less likely to play get-along with Senate liberals, if only to maintain the false charade of being the Senate's "purest of the pure" ideologues. On those grounds, much as I dislike him, I think I'd rather have Cruz stay in the Senate. I don't want to see him running for President in 2020.
Yeah, cruz blew a hole in his boat.
“Run the same poll the day after Trump loses.”
Trump is going to romp. Screw Crews.
ABC... anyone but Cruz.
Cruz in the Senate will grandstand against Trump at every opportunity... Cruz’s mental state is he should be president and Donald J. Trump is the reason why he will never be president. Never mind the majority of voting Americans saw through his con... He will be the next rebel of the Senate replacing lord McCain.
Cruz is much better for the Senate than Rick (Trump is a cancer) Perry.
Perry is a GOPe squish.
Apology accepted; Cruz fooled a lot of us, myself included.
And Cruz’ globalist Goldman Sach’s wife, who was a member of the Council of Foreign Relations and co-authored the North American Union paper.
Why? The politically correct position on this forum is that "La Raza Ricky" is a Cheap Labor Express scumbag.
Yup. Damn near all of us were Cruz supporters in one fashion or another as Prez or VP. Then, as we’ve seen, he destroyed his political career.
I want someone to explain to me, what makes them think Ted Cruz will be any better on illegal immigration than Rick Perry. After all, he was the one passing out teddy bears to them! In fact, I don’t trust Ted Cruz as a senator, period.
He obviously, relishes being an antagonist in the spotlight, so I can just see him, standing up on the floor of the Senate, opposing some tough legislation that Donald Trump had proposed for barring, vetting, or banning, illegal aliens.
I’m no fan of Rick Perry, but I would take him any day of the week over Ted Cruz. And I hope the great people of Texas feels the same and won’t reelect him.
