ESPN Panel: ‘NFL Players Don’t Speak Enough on Social/Cultural Issues’

ESPN’s Around the Horn has gone from one of the best, longest running panel shows the network has ever had, to an absolutely farcical flagship of left-wing lunacy.

Yesterday, the panel at ATH lamented the fact that Cam Newton didn’t feel racially persecuted. Because, apparently, that’s bad. On Tuesday’s edition of the show, the panel discussed really silly comments made by the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers, who said the NFL’s culture makes players not speak publicly on cultural issues, out of fear of repercussions.

Who are themselves being nannied.

They should be, to a man, like “look fellows. You hired me to play football, not to BE a political football. Cut this bull crap out.”

The LAST thing the NFL wants is getting embroiled in a political controversy that could cost them big amounts of money. This isn't the NBA, where most of its popularity is in urban areas more tolerant of players speaking out on social issues.

Definitely the NFL is more “redneck.”

Football players have "hidden" injuries, that is, those head bashes that seem to heal. Since they are young the hurt goes away and they keep playing. Same with knees, backs and necks.

When these men turn forty or so, the "hidden" injuries come blasting out. They can't walk, cock their wrists (defense), look up, etc.

But the rewards, both financial and social, outweigh the consequences.

SMART parents say: NO FOOTBALL, EVER.

It won't happen so these young men will suffer for the rest of their lives. Greedy and/or stupid parents.

Innit FUN?!?!

Nobody’s going into this ignorant of the risks. This is a free country, not a rubber room country.

Actually, I did play last night with some of my soul brothers and not a single political comment was made. Weird huh?

ESPN, Goodell, and the rest of the professional athletes should STFU about political issues! Myself and a lot of other ex athletic viewers are sick and tired of political correctness in athletics! Play the darn game and don’t beat your wife(girlfriend, ho, etc.) on TV.

The Dallas Cowboys tried to speak out on a social issue last week but the NFL crushed it.

Look around at the state of popular culture in the US. It really should be no surprise that the modern version of football absolutely dwarfs every US sport combined. It supports whole industries like sports media and betting/fantasy. And after the players started doing dances and fruity gyrations with real regularity it only got more popular.

Well yeah. It was more conservative leaning. Had they allowed the Cowboys to wear the stickers supporting LEO, how long before someone would demand to wear a blm sticker?

It’s just an observation I’ve noticed over the years.

The darker-skinned blacks seem to be more cool about race-relations. It’s the lighter-skinned ones that tend to be the most ambivalent. Probably because they feel like their skin isn’t darker they have to compensate to show they “belong to the club.”

I have not watched or listened to ESPN in ages. I may be forced into a Sunday or Monday night game, but only for teams I’m really interested in watching. I won’t watch pre-game, nor any post-game shows. ESPN has devolved into a left-wing arm of the Democrat party. If they want to really kill off all sports, they should continue to incite the need for athletes to “speak out on social/cultural issues.”

All athletes have “hidden” injuries. Pushing your body to the edge of its capability has a price, no matter how you do it.

The Dallas Cowboys attempted to speak political and social issues. The players wanted to wear an “WE SUPPORT THE DALLAS POLICE” emblem on their helmets in memory of the 5 assassinated officers. The NFL tossed aside their request to do so. Seems the NFL makes the decisions...that would be those same decisions which benefit the wealthy team owners and other persons who gather at the trough of greenbacks. The players, apparently have no say until the NFL gives them that liberty. Speaking truth to power is just a one way street on occasion.

I’m mildly surprised that an evangelism style has not seriously arise with a football motif. It wouldn’t be utterly unbiblical in theme, and just about everybody would understand what was intended. Some preachers would doubtless criticize it, but that’s not what would matter if the metaphor worked.

I’m seriously ready to drop the NFL in all forms because of this.

If just a couple more of these overpaid neanderthals feel the need to comment about gay rights, #BLM, or any other such issue, it will push me over the edge - no more tickets, no more TV, no more interest.
