Poll: Trump Arrests Slide (Morning Consult (Clinton 44 Trump 37)
Morning Consult ^ | 8/14/2016 | Cameron Easley

Posted on 08/14/2016 3:42:16 PM PDT by usafa92

Donald Trump is more unpopular than ever, according to a new Morning Consult poll, but he gained ground on Hillary Clinton for the first time since the Republican Party’s convention in Cleveland last month, trimming her lead to 7 points.

In the new national survey taken Aug. 11 through Aug. 14, the GOP presidential nominee picked up 2 percentage points against Clinton but still trails her — 44 percent to 37 percent — in a head-to-head matchup. Part of the deficit can be attributed to defections within Trump’s own party: 77 percent of Republicans back him, compared with 83 percent of Democrats who say they’d for Clinton if the election were held now.

Independents remain evenly divided, with one-third opting for Clinton and another third backing Trump. Clinton maintains her advantage over Trump among men — 43 percent to 41 percent — and boasts an 11-point lead among women: 45 percent to 34 percent.

Following another tempestuous week for Trump, who was criticized for controversial comments about the Second Amendment and his accusation that President Obama founded the Islamic State terror group, his popularity is at its lowest since Morning Consult began asking voters about the Republican candidate last summer. Sixty-two percent of voters said they have an unfavorable view of the GOP nominee, with 51 percent saying they view him very unfavorably.

Trump’s popularity problem is most striking among minority groups: 67 percent of Hispanic voters and 78 percent of black voters view him unfavorably.

Twenty-nine percent of Republicans also view Trump unfavorably, and his popularity is even worse among those who consider themselves part of the tea party movement, with 39 percent of those voters viewing him unfavorably.

Clinton’s favorability also took a hit, dropping 2 points. She is viewed unfavorably by 58 percent of voters. After a few weeks of scant negative headlines, the former secretary of state came under criticism following the release of another batch of State Department emails, which raised questions about the Clinton Foundation’s influence over the Cabinet agency.

When accounting for other candidates in the race, Clinton leads Trump by 6 points: 39 percent to 33 percent.

Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party nominee Jill Stein are struggling to gain traction with voters and, barring a major shift, are unlikely to make the debate stage scheduled for late September. Johnson, a former Republican governor of New Mexico, pulled in 9 percent of the vote, while Stein is the first choice for 4 percent of voters.

The national survey polled 2,001 registered voters, with a a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points. See the toplines and crosstabs.

Not even sure where to begin with this poll. First, I can't fathom any poll that would have Hillary leading men, much less in a sample of 2,000. Trump's favorables are supposed to be at an all time high yet he picks up 2 points overall. Hillary is only getting 83% Democrats yet is still up by 7 because Trump is only getting 77% Republicans.

Overall, a good piece of news in a weekend of raw sewage served up by the media. However, the overall tone of this piece is of course all negative. Given the self reported splits I would say this is about a D+5 or D+6 poll. I would expect the USC/Dornsife and the the UPI/CVoter poll to show upticks again by Tuesday assuming this trend is holding. Polling was completed today so I would guess that he had a good last 2 nights.

They all say the same thing: Hillary has it in the bag.

They might as well stop polling.

Hillary is still not getting over 50% even when the poll is oversampled with Ds.

No matter how hard they try, she doesn’t inspire enthusiasm.

Correct. She’d be hard pressed to get to 45% in any honestly conducted poll. What concerns me is Trump’s inability to ever get above 40 on a consistent basis. I would imagine over/under sampling will produce that result as well, it would be nice to see him with some higher numbers though.

Right there you know that poll is flawed. Hillary is not more popular with men than Donald Trump. The media people don’t even try to hide their huge lefty bias anymore.

Registered voters, not likely voters.
There is no way she leads with men and there is no way Trump is below 40%!!!

“Clinton maintains her advantage over Trump among men — 43 percent to 41 percent — and boasts an 11-point lead among women: 45 percent to 34 percent.”

That is rather suspect.

If the poll used D+2 or D+3 - it would show the race is tied or Trump is ahead.

MC is another push poll to sell Hillary as the inevitable President.

Throw it in the trash.

I would expect the USC/Dornsife

Already happened. But now the poll had a hiccup or something. Hahaa LA Slimes seems to have spiked the latest data. ;-)

The whole article is about Trump’s all time high negatives of 62%. Next paragraph they say hers are at 58%. You can’t make the bias up. Given this is most probably an oversampled D poll she’s in reality more unpopular than him.

Note how even in a seemingly positive sounding Trump headline, it still stresses the negative: "Trump arrests slide."

Hillary is not getting more than 40% with her negatives.

In November, the candidate people detest least will win.

Trump Crowds are getting BIGGER and BIGGER.

Hillary crowds can barely fill a classroom.

Crowds are the TRUE POLLS.

If you are going to steal an election you need the polls to agree so that no one questions the vote tally.

Keep pounding away that Trump’s camp is in disarray, even though people are crawling over broken glass to get to his rallies by the thousands, while they have to bus in hired actors to fill her rallies.

Nonsense. Maybe you should be more "concerned" with poll fraud than validating it. Trump is up over thirty points about Hillary in reality. The ONLY thing she can do at this point is voter fraud.
