The fall of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi seemed to vindicate Hillary Clinton. Then militias refused to disarm, neighbors fanned a civil war, and the Islamic State found refuge.
Islamists were moving aggressively to seize power, and members of the anti-Qaddafi coalition, notably Qatar, were financing them.
Mrs. Clinton would be mostly a bystander as the country dissolved into chaos, leading to a civil war that would destabilize the region, fueling the refugee crisis in Europe and allowing the Islamic State to establish a Libyan haven that the United States is now desperately trying to contain.
“There was one arsenal that we thought had 20,000 shoulder-fired, surface-to-air missiles, SA-7s, that basically just disappeared into the maw of the Middle East and North Africa,” recalled Robert M. Gates, the American defense secretary at the time.
As she exited the State Department in February 2013, factional violence, which would break into open civil war in 2014, was on the rise.
The flow of refugees paying smugglers for a hazardous trip across the Mediterranean was swelling.
And the Libyan chaos would give rise to two rival governments — one backed by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, the other by Qatar, Turkey and Sudan — providing sanctuary to extremists, soon to be joined by emissaries of the Islamic State.

“Vindicate”? Is this some new alternative meaning for an old word? What the fall of Qaddafi did was to demonstrate a reckless, incompetent State Department headed by someone with no foreign policy credentials and every intention to use that office for her own profit. “Indict” is a much closer word.

For the first time, elite U.S. Special Operations troops are directly helping fighters combat against ISIS in Libya with on-site support, The Washington Post reported on Tuesday, citing U.S. and Libyan officials.
A small group of U.S. Special Operations forces are operating together with UK troops in Sirte, a city on the Libyan coast and ISIS’ de facto capital in North Africa. The role of the U.S. troops is limited to backing forces loyal to Libya’s unity Government of National Accord (GNA), The Post noted, quoting U.S. officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Last week, the U.S. launched precision air strikes against targets of ISIS in its stronghold Sirte in order to back the efforts of GNA-affiliated troops to defeat ISIS in the city.
The U.S. strikes have hit nearly 30 militant targets so far, according to The Post.
This is not a steaming pile of fecal excrement, it is actually a lovely, delicious piece of chocolate cake.

Aside from the misleading headline the article was not bad. However, it did not delve into gun running by the State Department. That part fell down the memory hole. For the New York Times to even print this surprises me.

“How can I get his money?” thought Soros. “How can I get his money without spending a lot of my money?”
Qadaffi had an army.
Soros needed someone with an army to help him.
“My friend Hillary has access to an Army. I’ll ask her!”
Hillary was fine with the idea but she needed some help.
“Mr. Soros” said Hillary, “We need a phony baloney reason to attack Qadaffi. We need some kind of catch phrase.”
So Soros told his toadies to come up with something.
“Responsibility To Protect!” the toadies cried.
So Soros gave that to Hillary and the slaughter for silver began.
