During a closed-door meeting with bishops from Poland last week, Pope Francis denounced the transgender movement, which he said was contributing to the "annihilation of man as image of God."
The Pope's comments were included in a transcript released by the Vatican on Tuesday. In the private meeting he warned against the "ideological colonization" of culture by influential activists, particularly those pushing transgenderism on children.
During a discussion of the immigration crisis, Francis discussed the concept of the colonization of cultures.
"We are experiencing a moment of the annihilation of man as the image of God," he said. "I would like to conclude with this aspect, since behind all this there are ideologies. In Europe, America, Latin America, Africa, and in some countries of Asia, there are genuine forms of ideological colonization taking place. And one of these - I will call it clearly by its name – is 'gender.'"
The Pope then made clear that he was talking about the transgender movement.
"Today children – children! – are taught in school that everyone can choose his or her sex," he said. "Why are they teaching this? Because the books are provided by the persons and institutions that give you money. These forms of ideological colonization are also supported by influential countries. And this terrible!"
He concluded his comments by citing his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI.
"In a conversation with Pope Benedict, who is in good health and very perceptive, he said to me: 'Holiness, this is the age of sin against God the Creator.' He is very perceptive. God created man and woman; God created the world in a certain way… and we are doing the exact opposite," said Francis.

In His own image he made them; male and female he made them.
Both male and female are in God’s image. Other blends and permutations are not.

The Pope has given the LGB crowd much to applaud over the past couple of years, but he didn’t realize that the “T” crowd is cut from the same cloth. They’re aligned politically, and now he will receive the wrath of all. Who am I to judge?
There is no third gender in nature unless you consider a hermaphrodite to be a gender. Transgenders are merely mentally ill and confused individuals who cannot accept their biological gender. There may be no 3rd gender but nature does indeed make mistakes and then there’s the environmental factor. One can usually tell the difference by looking at the cross dresser which is really all they are. Men dressing in women’s clothes and visa versa. If they get a gender reassignment surgery done then they are still the gender they were born as but now they have no sex feeling parts. That part of their life is over permanently which is why so few actually go that far. The ones that do frequently commit suicide within a few years. It’s just too much for their confused mind to handle and they know at some level they can never be happy. Not really because they will never feel comfortable in their own skin. In a very real way; I feel great empathy for them. Nature screwed up.
This is the worst pope in my lifetime and I was raised Catholic. To have the worst pope and the worst US President at the same time is really unnerving.
The “image of God” the Pope is referring to is not the individual, but the union of male and female in marriage, which is fruitful, pro-creative, as God is creative.
My thoughts as well. I don’t think Poland would be too receptive to his sermons on world socialism. They’ve been there, done that against their will.
I think Saint John Paul II must be busy praying for him.
He specifically quoted Pope Benedict and affirmed what he said. I am hoping that this is meaningful. Hopefully this is a signal that Pope Francis draws the line somewhere.
