Notre Dame’s Deal with the Devil
First Things ^ | 8 . 4 . 16 | William Dempsey

Tim Kaine is a Georgetown graduate, but he and other pro-choice Catholic politicians owe much to Notre Dame. As Matthew Franck has observed in First Things, Mario Cuomo’s 1984 “personally opposed but won’t impose” speech at the university was a “watershed moment” for pro-choice apologists. Notre Dame’s gift to Cuomo of a high-visibility platform and an enthusiastic audience seemed to stamp “nihil obstat” on his argument. (Despite, as Dr. Franck explained, the “crashing ineptitude” of Cuomo’s rationale.)

Then a couple of months ago, just in time for Senator Kaine’s campaign on a ticket with the most radical pro-abortion platform in history, Notre Dame gave a boost to the Cuomo model of dissenting-but-faithful Catholic politician. At its Commencement, the University awarded the Laetare Medal, which it describes as “The Most Prestigious Award Given to American Catholics,” to Vice President Joe Biden and Speaker John Boehner. The award is given for “outstanding service to Church and society.”

Remember Mario Cuomo? Every time someone brought up abortion at a presser or something, he'd tell them to look up his Notre Dame speech and change the subject.

Apparently the University of Notre Dame, Cuomo, Kaine, Biden, Boehner, and others are unaware that the first human to acknowledge the presence on Jesus on earth was an unborn child.

Luke 1:41 "When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb"...

Can these people call themselves Catholic when they permit the killing of the unborn? They may be racists because most aborted babies are black.

Instead they fancy themselves as good because they are "saving money" by getting rid of people before they have to take care of them per their socialistic ways.

I wonder where the University of Dayton stands on this issue, especially for being a Marianist university. They tend to get a fair amount of the folks that Notre Dame rejects.

The phrases “devout Catholic” and “good Catholic” have zero meaning today. Pope Jorge the Red is a “devout Catholic.” The real and only measure as to whether or not you are walking with God is to follow the Bible and Jesus Christ.

According to everything available on the web, Tim Kaine graduated from the University of Missouri and Harvard Law School. I cannot find anything that attests to his having attended Georgetown University in any form — undergrad, grad school, extension course, etc. If Kaine did not in fact ever attend Georgetown, this article is moot and is an embarrassment to First Things. After the recent article in First Things that asserted Catholics have some special obligation to feel a kinship to Black Lives Matters — because the ruling elite in the city of Pittsburgh discriminated against Catholics 200 years ago or some such nonsense, I'm beginning to think something is going very wrong at First Things.

Note: it appears the First Things article excerpt posted on Free Republic either was incorrect in having “Georgetown” in the first line, or that “Georgetown” has been (correctly) replaced” by “Harvard Law School” in the First Things article itself, to which the post links.

They changed it at the source; it said “Georgetown” when I read it around 6:00 a.m. Just a tiny whoops there.

If the Catholic Church had a real Pope instead of a heretic Notre Dame would be stripped of its Catholic name. It’s just another left-lib academic cesspool.

Are you still killing your unborn?

They have brought the curse of the Obambino on themselves when they gave Obama an honorary JD and prosecuted 82 protesters including 3 Catholic priests - 2 Holy Cross Father - the order that staffs ND. Father Jenkins is a leftist who has destroyed the Catholic identity of a once great school. I always only watch them play anything to see them lose.
