Ghostbusters reboot is struggling to break even
Hot Air ^ | 2 Aug 2016 | John Sexton

...Ghostbusters has a reported production budget of $144 million and a print and advertising budget rumored to be around $100 million (it may be much more). So, at a minimum, the distributor needs to rake in about $250 million at the box office to break even.

But here’s the thing the author of the Houston Press piece seems to have momentarily forgotten. The distributor only collects about half of the money that comes in to the box office. The exact amount varies from film to film and depends on which weekend we’re talking about but, in general, the distributor takes a little more than half of the box office (this piece from 2011 says 55%). The figure is slightly less overseas so 50% is a good rule of thumb.

What this means is that in order to make back all the money spent producing and advertising the Ghostbusters reboot, the film needs to make around $500 million at the global box office.

Bialystock and Bloom would have liked this one.

I like reading about the true costs of making a movie and what is needed to break even or make a profit.

This film’s cost gave Titanic a run for its money and this AINT no Titanic.

It will end with a loss. And a horrific one at that.

If I had to guess, between 50 to 100 million, based on what I read in the article regarding drop in theaters week to week and overseas take regarding comedies.

Those Christian movies dont cost all that much to make but boy do they bring in a fortune.

But some in Hollywood would rather go bankrupt than make a movie like that.

When the director, the director’s best bud, and the studio started labeling anyone who expressed any reservations a sexist, misogynist, etc., I wanted it to fail. Didn’t really care before. Feig and Apatow like to equate Ghostbusters hate to “Trump-voting mouth-breathers,” so double F’em.

Well on of the reviews I read was that the characters in the new one did not mesh together like the characters in the original. I can’t confirm this as I have not watched the new one.

Myself I hope all the reboots fail. Let’s get some new movies instead of more craptastic retreads.

Quotes from the original:

Ray: Personally, I liked the university. They gave us money and facilities, we didn’t have to produce anything! You’ve never been out of college! You don’t know what it’s like out there! I’ve worked in the private sector. They expect results.

Pencil neck, the guy from the govt made them shut down the grid. The union guy didn’t want to do it.

I here the remake is just the opposite. Govt is good.

I did, I watched the whole thing on the chinese pirated movie website.

The characters don’t mesh at all. the entire comedy is entirely unfunny somehow. The dialogue sucks, the jokes suck, the delivery sucks, the story sucks, Chris Hemsworth sucks, Bill Murray sucks.

And Leslie Jones is pure awful. She just is not a good actress.

Hollywood can’t make a good movie today. Every rare now and then a gem slips through the corporate brass. Movies were better when it wasn’t a 21 year old faggot deciding what movies to make.

I exaggerate. All movie ideas now go through a series of focus groups which is why they are getting so bad. Focus groups destroy creativity and ruin everything they touch by compressing things. In order to eliminate the undesirable the also eliminate the outstanding. Everything gets compressed into a mediocre middle.

Movies by committee? Gee, what could go wrong.

PUKE.

46 million so far with a production cost of 20 million. Then there will be the downloads, digital steams, CDs, Blue Rays...

I can’t find the advertising budget but it’s usually not as big as blockbuster budgets.

They will make a tidy profit.

BTW, how did I miss this? I guess when you don’t watch TV anymore you miss the commercials and I didn’t see it in any previews at the theater. Nor did I read about it in entertainment websites. My bad.

And, if the liberals (and the press) weren't so intent on promoting "girlz-r-alwayz-better" and the rest of the feminist hardline and actually had the beliefs they claim, they would have noticed this about the godawful Ghostbusters reboot:
