The New York Times Carlos Slims blog got caught in a lie today about Donald Trumps military service.
The Times bloggers Steve Eder and David Phillips write: "Many men of Mr. Trumps age were looking for ways to avoid the war, said Charles Freehof, a draft counselor at Brooklyn College at the time, noting that getting a letter from a physician was a particularly effective option.

At the same time I was called to Fort Hamiltom for a pre i duct physical. My BP was very high. I was given a temporary deferment but was called back two more times. As my BP was still elevated I received a 1Y deferment. At that time I was eligible for either reexam or call up if a national emergency was called. I received my 4F status at the same time as Trump. The Times propoganda guys could have made one call to DoD to get the 1Y to 4F procedure. The Left is very cunning about Vietnam deferments. They said Bill Clinton was just following the rules, but attack Cheney for supposedly getting five college deferments. In actual fact you had to apply each new school year for the 2S defererment. So a four year student like me received 4 deferments as did every other male student of age. When people bring up Nam, I’ve always thought only two groups came out with any honor. Those who went and served and surprisingly those who went to prison for refusing. Not the guys who went underground or Canada, but went to prison for their belief,
