Cornyn denounces Cruz's 'mistake' of not endorsing Trump at convention
The Dallas Morning News ^ | July 29, 2016 | Jamie Lovegrove

Posted on 07/30/2016 2:46:48 PM PDT by monkapotamus

"I think it was a mistake,” Cornyn said in an interview on Fox News Radio’s Kilmeade & Friends. “You don’t come to the convention after you have lost the nomination and not support the nominee. I think the right thing to do would be to stay home. So I think it was a mistake and I don’t know what it means in terms of his future, but I think he miscalculated.”

Cornyn added that he has not talked to Cruz since he saw him in Cleveland, but he said other members of the Texas delegation shared a similar view...

Cornyn's rebuke of Cruz also further cements his role as a firm Trump supporter. Although he has said that Trump was not his first choice in the primary, Cornyn has always said he would back the Republican nominee and has not wavered, despite criticizing some of Trump's individual statements...

There was never any justification for thinking he was smart. All you have to do is check all the right issue boxes and some people will start erecting a statue in your honor, whether you’ve accomplished anything or not. Hopefully the Trumpening will change some of that.

I wonder how he could have possibly endorsed Trump without looking looking like a jerk.

I think he probably should have just stayed away from the convention and kept quite.

Yep you don't come the convention, get on the stage at the podium and not endorse the
candidate the voters chose to represent them.

Cruz got his feeling hurt and he found out he wasn't continuing to glide into the
ruler of the world as his papa had told him was his future. I wonder if he can pull
himself up by his boots to win reelection in 18.

Cruz said, “vote for the constitutionalist”. Trump ought to have replied, “thank you for your endorsement”.

I agree. He should have just stayed away. He couldn’t win either way.

For all his blathering about the Constitution and all his so-called values, Ted Cruz only believes in one thing: Ted Cruz.

Exactly. We saw how flexible his priniples are.

When a total stooge like John Cornyn can see through it, it’s a really bad mistake. Now Texas needs two new senators.

...I wonder how he could have possibly endorsed Trump without looking looking like a jerk....

Easy. He doesn't have to praise Trump. He could say, "As a Constitutionalist, I know what our Supreme Court will look like in four years if Hillary is elected, and our Constitution will continue to be ignored. Donald Trump has put forth a superb list of potential Supreme Court nominees. I call on all of my fellow Republicans to vote for our nominee...." Cruz doesn't have to say he likes Trump. He can just emphasize their areas of agreement.

I think that Cruz would have felt like a wimp endorsing Trump. I know that he wouldn’t do that. I think he should have just stayed away completely. He should not have done what he did.

People confuse intelligence, knowledge and wisdom (and their opposites, stupidity, ignorance and foolishness). They are three different things. Having one doesn’t mean you have the others. In fact, the smarter and more learned a person is, the more foolish they can be. Dennis Prager has a saying, some ideas are so foolish they could only come from a university.

I was in the room with Cruz once when he came here locally and gave a talk.

This was about three years aago, nothing to do with the Presidency.
Basically just a canned blah speech. Cannot even recall what it was about.

Maybe he was ordered to run to help split the primary vote and assist
Juan Arbusto to the finish line.

“I never thought Cruz would make such a stupid choice. He is not as smart as is has been portrayed. Some believe he never was a conservative.”

I’m one of those! I did some research on Heidi Cruz and Ted Cruz and found out about their love for the EU, the North American Union, and of course TPP. That was it for me as they are Globalists!

Cruz’s actions also show he has no loyalty or honor. I hope the voters of Texas send him home when his seat comes up!

Don’t believe anything Cornyn says. He’s just like the rest of that scum in the Senate.

It only took a few weeks to tell me he is creep. Something really bothered me about him. A FB friend told me I was being deceived by Trump. She was a Cruzer but is now supporting Trump. Guess who was deceived?

Well said.

Cornyn has been a RINO and fallen in line with the elitist party leaders, but that is no reason for Texas to entertain two of these sob’s in the US Senate.

He at least had Cruz’ number. Cruz has to be toast, because everyone is on to him and no one wants to accommodate him his political climbing again.

<< I think ambition clouded his judgement. >>

Cruz’ ambition *shaped* his judgement. He never had a morsel of judgement that was not intentionally corrupted by clinical ambition. You’re sure right about that clinically proportioned ambition.

<< I must admit i am amazed Cornyn said this. >>

Cornyn knows Cruz is going nowhere in the US Senate, and will be stripped of committee chairmanships, perhaps from even serving on committees, and his fine high profile there will evaporate.

Cruz will be iced. Couldn’t happen to a better poseur than he.
