Donald Trump will begin to get intelligence briefings now that he is the official GOP candidate for president.
Both Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton will get briefings as soon as next week, James R. Clapper Jr., the director of National Intelligence, said Thursday during the Aspen Security Forum.
Although Trump is a notorious tweeter and Clinton has been on the hot seat for her email server, Clapper said there is "no hesitation" to brief either candidate.
"And the reason for that is ... there is a long tradition that the intelligence community, at the appropriate time, and now is the appropriate time since both candidates have been officially anointed, both camps will be reached out to and offered briefings," Clapper said.
It will be up to both camps on whether they want to "accept" the information, he said. Teams have already been put in the place to meet with both Trump and Clinton.
"There is no stipulation anywhere that requires a security clearance for a presidential candidate. The fact that they're a candidate qualifies them," Clapper said.
The national intelligence director said it is not up to him to decide whether the two candidates are "suitable" for the classified information, he is just to deliver it.
The voters will decide who will be "cleared for everything," he added.
Hillary probably already has buyers lined up for the information.

I wonder if they deny these to 3rd party candidates, he didn’t mention them. I don’t suppose they should get such briefings, but do they make a fuss about it? Libertarian, Green parties etc.

Good question. I know the national Green Party has not yet had it’s convention. What is the status of the Libertarian Party? The likely winner of the Green Party is Dr. Jill Stein who ran for governor against Mitt Romney a while ago.
Probably only major party candidates. Gary and Jill have about as much chance of winning the presidency as Pat Paulsen did.
I bet there will be a very reserved Trump in the near future, he will put on his poker face, especially when he knows all the security issues that Obama blows off ever since he took office. And Trump will NEVER advertise his plans, count on it.
Matter of fact the MSM will go nuts saying Trump is too secretive, isn’t doing anything, isn’t advertising ahead of time for ratings and etc.

That is really frightening, especially after Hillary has been criminally negligent with classified information.
I hope they aren’t going to email Clinton her briefing.
