Some of my Christian friends tell me they cant in good conscience vote for Donald Trump because, when faced with a choice between the lesser of two evils, the morally right thing is to choose neither one. They recommend voting for a third-party or write-in candidate.
As a professor who has taught Christian ethics for 39 years, I think their analysis is incorrect. Now that Trump has won the GOP nomination, I think voting for Trump is a morally good choice.
American citizens need patience with each other in this difficult political season. Close friends are inevitably going to make different decisions about the election. We still need to respect each other and thank God that we live in a democracy with freedom to differ about politics. And we need to keep talking with each other because democracies function best when thoughtful citizens can calmly and patiently dialog about the reasons for their differences. This is my contribution to that discussion.

Some one ought to tell Ted
The NeverTrump “Christians” provide graphic proof that the ability to REASON about moral issues is rare.
They are offended by Trump’s marriages, and his occasional use of a vulgarity. They ignore his promises to end persecution of Christians in America, to appoint Originalist judges (which means, in practice, pro-life judges), and cut tax rates dramatically, establish a commodity standard for the dollar, and stop the Muslim/Mexican/Other invasion.
So they will passively accept the election of a thrice-aborted woman (maybe even more), who promises to continue promoting abortion, No Borders, persecution of Christians, huge tax increases, huge spending increases, and everything else on the Globalist Jihadist agenda.
These “Christians” turn my stomach with their stupidity.
They are people who are going to go into the voting booth and MASTURBATE while they admire the purity of their own souls.
Way to take an olive branch and stomp all over it.
What olive branch?
Is there a group here that supports Trump like the one we had for Swift Boaters?
I make it a point to never Vote for a Post Menopausal Marxist, a Democrat or both.

Trump’s offering to be a Constantine to Christians and we’d be a fool not to accept his offer. I’ll remind everyone that GWB was a very morally upright Christan who’s stupidity got most of the middle eastern Christains killed or exiled while appointing judges who screwed Christains over.
They must be those big tent megachurch christians.
I don’t recall anyone else speaking for Christians here and abroad the way Trump has.
That means a lot to me as a believer.
He tells the truth about what is happening in the world.
He says it’s wrong.
How many christian leaders and followers are doing that now?
Even in private?(political correctness isn’t that far reaching-they still want the world as it is it would seem or to fit in or be like everyone else?)
Why are some christian leaders allowing korans in the church?(chrislam)
Just the idea that Trump would speak for believers so boldly in this day and age makes me wonder if he might be a whole lot closer to God than we could ever guess.
We don’t know his heart.
Only God does.
God has seen fit to see him this far against global opposition and terrible odds.
I believe God has chosen him.
I really do.
David was a man after God’s heart and he was a murdering adulterer.
“David was a man after Gods heart and he was a murdering adulterer.”
And Solomon was a philandering sometimes idol worshiper who let his foreign wives lead him astray. Hezekiah was beset by pride and leaned upon the earthly help of Pharaoh rather than God.
Most of those who refuse to vote for Trump wouldn’t vote for the three greatest Kinds of ancient Israel - men who the Bible calls “Good Kings” Even good men are flawed.
It pays to actually read the the Bible sometimes
Bingo. You missed the entire tone of the piece which was to entice religious conservatives who have issues with Trump into ignoring them long enough to vote for Trump. Instead you want to piss all over them and call them masturbators. Great way to win them over, champ. Are you working for Hillary?
I make it a practice to pray for Donald Trump and Mike Pence everyday. If they don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,(which I have no right to judge) I pray that they do so they can get down on their knees everyday and pray for a moral turnaround in this country before it is too late!
Those “Christians” also wouldn’t be able to vote for Christ because He displayed some human attributes....
Bttt
Grudem is a well respected Reformed theologian.
I hope some fellow Christ followers will heed his teaching here.
The formulation "the lesser of two evils..." tries to convince me that only these "two evils" have flaws. It'd be more honest to acknowledge that "choosing neither one" is also flawed. What we really have is a choice between several imperfect options--is there really any completely "perfect" option? "The least of several evils is still evil" doesn't have the same facile appeal.
Some people, though, would have an interest in promoting the phrase "the lesser of two evils is still eeeeeevil!"
I wouldn't be surprised if the phrase was invented by someone running for office as The Other Option (minor party? independent? write-in?) and seeking some simple saying to promote himself as a non-"evil," as if he weren't some fallible sinner like the rest of us.
I'd be even less surprised if the phrase is being used now mainly to scare certain people. "Ooh, look, divorces!!!! You'd better be moral and vote for someone else or sit out this election!!!!! [And if we can't get you to vote for Clinton, at least we can get you not to vote for Trump.]"
The comments there are slightly amusing to someone who is anything like me. Others may be advised to avoid reading them. For example, some comments repeat Democrats' talking points about How Bad Trump Is; I wouldn't be surprised if these were posted by Democrats, their supporters, or their employees. One person even calls Hillary Clinton a "lifelong faithful Methodist."
“Operation Split the Vote” - “Operation Suppress the Vote”
“Operation Elect CROOKED Hillary” ?
