Paul Simon took to the Democratic National Convention stage last night to perform his hit "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
A lot of fans were quick to point out that the singer's performance was, well, troubled.
Éponine15191 @Eponine15191 So I've just caught up with the footage of Paul Simon at the DNC yesterday singing Bridge Over TW, I'm so sad for him. He looks sick. #sad 5:26 AM - 26 Jul 2016
Public_Interest @Public_Interest Paul Simon fan here: Paul Simon was awful tonight. 10:05 PM - 25 Jul 2016
Mr. Cummings @APGOPOHHS I've always loved Paul Simon but that was more awful than a karaoke version of Bridge Over Troubled Water. 9:30 PM - 25 Jul 2016
Regina Ferguson @regina_ferguson Paul Simon singing Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water at the DNC was painful. Is the man ill? Off key with no emotion.
Some, however, defended Simon, noting his age.
Paul Waldman @paulwaldman1 Hey everybody, cut Paul Simon some slack on not hitting the high notes. The man's 74 years old! Your voice should be as good at that age. 9:46 PM - 25 Jul 2016

Simon should have stuck with “Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard.”
Living decades in the past....
If Simon wasnt in good enough health to perform, he shouldnt have been on stage.
Geriatric Paul Simon bungling and croaking through one of his famous “60s” generation songs from 50 years ago is a perfect metaphor for Hillary Clinton’s presidential candidacy.
The Democrats promise to bring America together again, and they cant even bring Simon and Garfunkel together again.
Hee hee hee.
BB King always had one problem he never could get past. He could not sing and play at the same time. When he is playing, he is not singing, and when singing, he is not playing.
"From out of nowhere, I said, wristband, its just a metaphor for, You cant get in. You dont have whats required, Mr. Simon said. And thats whats going on. That battle is being fought right now, the haves and have-nots."
I always loved the live version of Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. 14 minutes and 10 seconds gave you plenty of bathroom or loving time for your groupies.
Man I miss my old DJ days.
I saw him perform accompanied by a great guitar player last year at a small theatre. When transitioning in or out of middle range notes he struggles to hold the pitch and, as he said during the show cannot put the power he would like behind some of the notes.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed seeing him in an elegant and small setting. He read some of his poems between songs explaining the inspiration behind them. Quite good writing. He did a long question and answer session with the audience which was really interesting.
Incidentally, that night he sang "Bridge Over Trouble Water" for the first time publicly since his throat injury, but only part of it. He's also about 74.
Kind of proves how retarded the DNC is.
They didn’t see the guy beforehand and realized he would suck?
Who do they have singing tonight, Milli Vanilli?
Simon reportedly had a domestic dispute/possible abuse issue with his wife awhile back.
Singing and playing guitar at the same time is not easy at all, especially if there’s a funky beat or syncopation.
I can play guitar, and I can sing almost adequately, but to do the two together I have to practice the hell out of both parts individually, then practice the hell out of doing them together.
Something like this is about as hundred times as hard as it looks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16kHVpwFE5g
Democrats age very badly. Paul Simon is no exception.
Here's an excellent song that he recorded under the name Jerry Landis (with Art Garfunkel as "Tom Graph") that will touch hearts
Dancin' Wild--Tom & Jerry (1957). The flip side is Hey, Schoolgirl.
Yeah. Like BRIDGES over troubled waters, they will lay them
down. - TRUMP, OTOH will BUILD THOSE BRIDGES!!!!
Grapelli was absolutely great and was featured on Paul Simons song Hobo Blues on Simons first solo album.
Fingers and voices are two different things though. Nimble fingers endure longer than vocal chords in most of us humans (barring arthritis). If Paul wants to perform and people still enjoy seeing an icon, where's the harm? Hes earned the right to be on the stage.
