Archaeologists in Texas have found a set of 16,700-year-old tools which are among the oldest discovered in the West. Until now, it was believed that the culture that represented the continents first inhabitants was the Clovis culture. However, the discovery of the ancient tools now challenges that theory, providing evidence that human occupation precedes the arrival of the Clovis people by thousands of years.

Everybody prefers to live in Texas. These folks knew that 16,000 years ago.
(Mentions some finds of what might be the Salutrians off the East Coast.)

Round, dull, thick spear heads that wouldn’t penetrate water?
Yep.
Those are some of my ancestors there.

archeologists discovered the tools about half an hour north of Austin in Texas, at the site called Gault. They were located a meter deep in water-logged silty clay. The site contained more than 90 stone tools and some human remains including fragments of teeth.cool

Right,
but that makes these objects only 15,700 years old
based upon your current earth calendar.

Sixteen thousand years ago the climate in Texas was late Ice Age, temperate and mild with grassland and forest. Just about paradise. Now it's more the political and business climate that draws people there.

I am a Texas arrowhead Hunter from way back, I have boxes of arrowheads and pieces of worked flint.
I was walking along a creek not too far from this place in the article, years ago. The creek had a high bank and I noticed something about 12 feet from the top. It was a the remains of a small campfire and there was burned wood and several arrow heads. The campfire had been partially washed down toward the creek.
I took the arrowheads and a few pieces of the burned wood. I wish I knew where those things were, I might have found someone who could have dated them for me.
