Trump starts considering Cabinet
The Hill ^ | 23 Jul 2016 | Alexander Bolton

CLEVELAND — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is already focused on picking people for his future Cabinet.

A day before accepting his party’s nomination and completing an astonishing political rise that has taken him to the heights of the Republican Party’s power, Trump met with his inner circle at the Cleveland Westin to discuss his possible transition.

Eric Trump told The Hill that his father is determined to put together a Cabinet that can help him turn around the country. He suggested his father would look to the private sector to find effective leadership for government.

“You have to have the best people, and you have to put those people in charge, and those people have to be the best at what they do, and that’s going to be my father’s message,” Trump said.

“If we’re going to have the biggest deals in the world, which are trade deals, why not have the best guys negotiate this? Why not have the Carl Icahns or the top guys of Wall Street?” he added. “It’s why they’re worth millions and billions of dollars. It’s because they’re tough and they’re shrewd.”

Donald Trump recently floated former Goldman Sachs executive Steve Mnuchin as a possible choice to head the Treasury Department, a development first reported by Fortune. Mnuchin serves as the national finance chairman of his campaign.

Icahn, one of the nation’s savviest investors, said last year he was not interested in heading Treasury.

“You’ll probably see a lot of people who are outside traditional Washington, D.C.,” Eric Trump added. “The people who are in there right now haven’t exactly done this country wonders.”

Chief of Staff could be Stephen Miller. Sessions must stay in the Senate!

You can’t risk the possibility of losing any Senate seats by pulling them out unless they can be filled by a Republican per whatever rules apply.

Some work in a few of these Departments will need to continue. I do not see Trump taking an axe to all of them, but a scalpel.

Yes!! A much more effective and involved position than Veep! Gingrich would have been lost and board as #2. In this type of position, he has the most traction to kick asses and take names.

" Trump is supposed to be good at firing people. I hope so. There’s plenty of deadwood that needs it. Entire departments full of it. "

Yes, but on the other hand he could outsource this to an independent consultant, kind of on the same principle that the head coach never engages in butt-kicking on the practice field, have the assistants take care of that.

A consultant who has experience in calling in mass numbers of people and saying "Blahblahblah, pack your desks and get out!"

Someone technology savvy... someone who needs some attention after having been jerked around by Ted Cruz... it must really hurt to be dumped at the Indianapolis airport to fly home on your own dime... girls have feelings, you know.

True, but it still must be abolished; your plan for the cabinet does not address it. DHS is in the same category.

Private sector....It sounds so radical....but every last member of our government “leaders” came from the private sector.

Time for some other country to host the UN. They need to move, how about Iceland, Greenland, Australia or Germany, perhaps China?

For 40+ years I have urged that the U.N. Headquarters should be in a country like Haiti! They definitely would appreciate the economic boost and, as an added benefit, the grossly over-staffed and overpaid U.N. staff would reconsider their career choices! If they really "Care", they'll stay (unlikely). Plus, New Yorkers would appreciate being able to have more parking available!!!

“You’ll probably see a lot of people who are outside traditional Washington, D.C.,” Eric Trump added.

Why would intelligent people from outside of Washington every want to debase themselves by diving into that snake pit? Who in their right mind would willingly go through the confirmation process as it exists today?

ANY agency created to placate the 1970s hippies MUST be dismantled on Day One.

Those agencies were only created to quell riots over 40 years ago. They need to GO.
