WASHINGTON – In response to the announcement that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has selected U.S. Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate, American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. today issued the following statement:

“While representing Virginia in the U.S. Senate, Tim Kaine has been a vocal advocate for government workers and the programs we deliver to the American public. Like Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine understands the vitally important role of government in ensuring our safety, security, prosperity, and democracy.

“Hillary Clinton is a fighter who will stand up to the anti-worker forces that want to dismantle public social programs, outsource government jobs to the lowest bidder, abolish labor unions, and drive down wages for working families. Federal employees and all public servants will have two strong allies in the White House in a Clinton-Kaine administration.

“Senator Kaine spoke out against the unprecedented 16-day federal government shutdown in 2013, which occurred due to a partisan stalemate over Obamacare funding, and fought to ensure that federal employees would be paid once the government was reopened. In 2015, Kaine went to bat for federal employees in the Department of Homeland Security who were facing unpaid furloughs due to yet another partisan fight in Congress.

“Last year, Sen. Kaine helped secure additional credit monitoring and identify theft protection for the more than 20 million federal employees, retirees, and job applicants whose personal information was compromised by two data breaches into computer systems maintained by the Office of Personnel Management.

“This summer, Sen. Kaine called for increasing TSA’s funding to reverse years of budget cuts that have resulted in longer wait times for airline passengers at security checkpoints. And he has been fighting to prevent the Department of Defense from privatizing military commissaries that are vital source of discounted groceries for our military families and retirees, as well as a source of income for the many veterans and military spouses who work there.

“Tim Kaine believes in supporting and defending a strong public service and we look forward to continuing our positive working relationship with the senator once he becomes vice president.”

AFGE President J. David Cox Sr. will be attending the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia to cast his vote for presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton as a Maryland delegate. To arrange a media interview with him, contact Cory Bythrow at 202-765-4976 or cory.bythrow@afge.org.

I’ll be glad for all that Trump can accomplish, but I’m not even hoping for that.

The fat cat government workers know that Kaine and Unable will keep up the Democrat policies that take from the poor taxpayers and give to the rich bureaucrats. What’s not for this Union to love about that? Trump must air an ad about this damning endorsement.

The Sanders supporters got chumped.

They thought it would be Bernie as VP if he supported Hillary after she stole the Primary from him. Well they got fooled again. Reminds me of that old Who song “ Won’t Get Fooled Again”.

He wouldn't need Congressional approval. You do remember that the rule allowing Federal employee unions (for the first time in history) was just an Executive Order of JFK's. All it would require on Trump's part would be . . . balls. Do you remember that Bill Clinton staffer (I forget which metrosexual geek) and his chuckling remark about EOs?

"Stroke of the pen--law of the land."

“With some of his closest advisers deeply pessimistic about the chances of getting major legislation passed during the rest of the year, Mr. Clinton plans to issue a series of executive orders to demonstrate that he can still be effective.

‘’Stroke of the pen,’’ Paul Begala, an aide to Mr. Clinton, said in summarizing the approach. ‘’Law of the land. Kind of cool.’’

LOL

I wonder sometimes if all government employees, at all levels, should not be allowed to vote.

While I don’t approve of discriminating against anyone but it seems many of the gov’t employees are going to vote for the politicians that give them the most stuff at the expense of the hard-working taxpayers.

It’s one reason why so many states are floundering with debt from the government employees retirement programs. It’s a huge problem in the US right now, created by them and the gifting politicians. Maybe just getting rid of the gov’t unions would be a better answer but something needs to be done in this area.

I stopped by an unnamed federal workplace to visit an old friend last week. In brief conservation with his workers, I found all of them quite open in their intention to vote for Trump, except one Bernie-ite who apparently isn’t going to vote. Obviously this is just a small snapshot, but it might indicate something, and this was in a very blue state.
