The police officer who shot and killed an unarmed man during a brief scuffle in 2014 has retired from the agency but will continue to collect half of his final salary tax-free for the remainder of his life.

Officer Wallace Jensen, 33, who worked at the police department for eight years, received industrial disability retirement, effective this April, said police Chief Allwyn Brown.

Jensen stands to earn $70,700 annually from the disability retirement, according to CalPERS, and will be eligible for cost of living increases.

Only police and firefighters are eligible for industrial disability retirement, which must be signed off by a doctor, according to Kim Greer, a risk assessment manager for the city. Recipients can begin collecting payment the first day they are no longer employed. Sworn personnel can also qualify for a cash payment from the city for their injury.

There’s more to this story. Do NOT allow the Dhimmicrats to
make you hate the police & don’t go off half-cocked with
only one side of a story.

Thanks

I just think we are better than that

Truth is that part of Richmond is a war zone.

yes, we all should have done the civil service route/military route...no layoffs...short work years...fat obscene pension and bennies...

we had a cop here claim disability after going underground and he got hooked on cocaine...another cop got early disability due to stress all the while going to night school to be a lawyer...

are there probably a few deserving civil service/military who should receive the pension early?...absolutely....but the numbers are outrageous nowadays...

Maybe. Maybe that’s the best explanation. I can’t tell from here. As written it sounds odd to me. If it was a necessary shooting rather than a panicked reaction, I wouldn’t have expected cash settlement and forced retirement as a high probability outcome.

Oh but that is Richmond the area known as the Iron Triangle is dominated by two types of gangs black and Mexican. They fight each other. They fight the cops. They kill any and every body they can. The fact that the settlement was less than a million yells you it is the white city council paying their guilt money not that it was a bad shooting

Forced retirement would have been expected otherwise the city would have had big problems.

It’s Calpers, so who cares. Breaking the bank, is the only solution.

If it was a decent shoot, why did he need to be declared mentally disabled for life due to a trauma on duty?

Why don't you ask about 100 thousand combat veterans that question. See how they respond.
