Video has emerged appearing to show the gunman who shot dead at least nine people in Munich involved a furious argument with a witness, shouting “I am German!” and complaining of being bullied.

The shooter, who was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was identified by German police as an 18-year-old with dual German and Iranian nationality. He had no criminal record.

In the footage, which was posted on Twitter, an unseen man can be heard shouting abuse at another man, who is clad all in black and pacing on the top floor of an empty car park.

Another instance when Only the bad guy has a gun- so sad. When will they ever learn? First, they disarm all the citizens, then they invite in the barbarians. Crazy Merkel.

Yes they can be dervied from Sonbol. Sonboly means “belonging to”. Sonbol is also the name of a flower, it means hyacinth.

“It only requires a belief.”

I agree. But that belief somehow would need to be cultivated or fostered and then used as a tool to commit murder or a criminal act. It provides the motivation. That’s what I’m questioning too. For example, was his family religious, did he have a religious upbringing, did he frequent mosques, did he have ongoing conversations online or in person with jihadis, etc.. see what I’m saying?

Don’t look for the connections, don’t look for the why, look at the behavior and the results.

Outcome based jihadism.

OR he just flipped because he had mental, emotional or other problems, that weren’t connected to religion at all.

One thing appears clear already. He did not just flip. Nor did the killer in Nice "just flip". In both cases it appears some long term planning took place. In Sonboly's case he needed to acquire the gun, and also set up a fake Facebook page. So it is not something that happened over-night.

Now, it does not necessarily have to be connected to his religious or political faith (as with Anders Breivik) but the witness satement from the MacDonalds restaurant where he started his rampage, makes it very likely it is.

I understand all the analysis, but not that a few people here seem ready to give someone a pass on the terrorism label because he had an argument with a guy on a balcony, mentioning “treatment” and criticize the Turks. Or because he was Iranian. There also seems to be some acceptance of a “bullying” excuse, and what does lack of criminal record have to do with it?

Nor do I find the encounter bizarre. Bravo for the balcony guy cursing him out.

Iran is still a leading sponsor of terrorism.

Could have been a troubled kid but also seems to be an Islamic connection.

I don’t doubt that he planned it, and maybe you’re right.

Iran has a ten percent Sunni population. I would think the Sunni minority would be more likely to emigrate.

First, the kid was native-born, but in a minority group like the Iranians in Germany....he likely got dumped on a good bit by German-Turks. There’s no indication....at age 19....that he’d been employed anywhere, so I could see regular Germans calling him a ‘loser’.

Excellent assessment. Thanks for the view from Germany.

If this situation wasn't so tragic, it would be humorous. The loser finally does something in his life and the result is he spends his last minutes on Earth being taunted as a Turk -- the very people whom he hates most.

If he’s a self-proclaimed mujihadin, then he had a connection.

Shi’ite Iranians support spreading terrorism on a scale fully comparable with that of ISIS. They just have not ramped up the wider application of the means of delivering such degree of terrorism.

All those Turks that Germany was freely importing in the 1950’s and 1960’s and 1970’s are now firmly established, and back when the Shah still sat on the Peacock Throne in Iran, there was a lot of Iranian-German interchange. The seeds of this discord were planted long ago, and now Germany reaps the whirlwind.

Something like that, possibly higher. There are about three times as many Sunni Azeris who live in Iran as live in Azerbaijan. I think you would get close to 10% with the ethnic Azeris only.

Third, the Muslim gimmick will fall into play, but this was a kid with no real future and a perfect candidate for their jihad-loser game.

The thing is, if you think about this as a German....there must be several thousand of these male teens of a Islamic nature who are naturally-developed losers. So, what exactly is going to prevent other massacres? No one can answer that question.

Item #3: ready made excuse; not his fault

Just what America needs, millions of them /s
