They didn't riot in the streets of Cleveland, as Donald Trump said his supporters would do had things not gone his way. But you saw the raw essence of a riot, the madness and loss of reason, on display in four days of chaos at the Republican National Convention.
For a campaign now devoted to "law and order," the launch was mob rule: in spirit, in tone, in words. Long after we've forgotten Trump's closing speech - that paean to self, that nightmare portrait of an America where the lights have gone out - we will remember the savagery just below the surface.
Starting on night one, when Republicans chose to manipulate the grief-deranged mother of a terrorist victim, the build-up to the hanging of Hillary Clinton was never subtle. Imagine if one party had exploited a widow of one of the 241 service members killed in the 1983 suicide bombing of Americans in Beirut — the deadliest single attack on marines since World War II — as a stick against Ronald Reagan, whose administrative negligence was much to blame.
You can't imagine. Because nothing about this Republican Party, whose leader now stands ready to repudiate nearly 70 years of security for our European allies under an "America First" banner, even remotely resembles the Grand Old Party of before. You could not find a City on a Hill, a single Point of Light, no Morning in America. Only doom, dystopia, dread, darkness - and a bumper-sticker solution to restoring greatness.

I assume this is their standard boilerplate article to be run after any Republican convention. Kudos to the reporter for remembering to write the name of Donald Trump in the boxes that say “Insert Name of Nominee Here,” and good job to the editor who followed the instruction that said “Do not print this article until AFTER the Nominee makes his/her/zer speech.”

The author does not get it. We protected Europe since the end of WWII and all we get in return is the is hate, scorn and ridicule. If they are not willing to pay for their own defense, why should Americans pay?
As for the other, America is at her lowest point in history. I would rather have a President who is willing to point out the problems then to pretend all is rainbow and unicorns.
And if there is any “darkness” in the nation, it is the result of that corrupt “city on a hill” which only deserves scorn not praise.

I totally didn’t see it that way. A well run convention. Good speeches. Trump’s kids were dazzling as were many other speeches. No chaos, really. Things like Melania’s “plagerism” were fabrications of the media.
Wow. Just wow. I am not sure how these liars live with themselves or convince themselves that they are telling the truth. The are delusional beyond belief....
As for the speech, didn’t Donald end it with “God Bless you! and I love you all!” - Oh yeah, that sounds like hate for sure.... Donald’s speech was also that of inclusive, like a CEO telling employees we are going to work together.
Hillary on the other hand is ‘me, me, me... I, I, I’. Her people are also the ones rioting, attacking others, burning flags, and acting hateful.
In the ‘70s I used to hear about “moving with the times”, etc. Unfortunately, these times are not good enough to move with.
