Thiel urges Republicans to back off 'culture wars

Technology investor Peter Thiel implored Republicans from the convention stage on Thursday against waging "culture wars" on lesbian, gay and transgender communities, mere days after the GOP approved a national platform that defines marriage as between “one man and one woman.” Thiel, who himself is gay, stressed that "every American has a unique identity." He said attempts to require transgender Americans to use particular bathrooms is a "distraction from our real problem." And in a first for a GOP convention, the Facebook board member and PayPal co-founder drew attention to his own sexuality: "I am proud to be gay, I am proud to be a Republican, but most of all, I am proud to be an American," he said.

The reporter misquoted Thiel deliberately. He aimed his rhetoric at DEMOCRATS like Obama:

"When I was a kid, the great debate was about how to defeat the Soviet Union. And we won. Now we are told that the great debate is about who gets to use which bathroom. This is a distraction from our real problems. Who cares? Of course, every American has a unique identity. I am proud to be gay. I'm proud to be a Republican. But most of all, I am proud to be an American."

It is OBAMA'S DOJ that is suing to force trannie access to ANY bathroom. Thiel clearly is ridiculing that as trivial DESPITE the fact he is gay.

Because Crazydad, the homo. Agenda is destroying our religious liberty and first amendment. For example: homosexuality is required to be promoted in our public schools. Businesses of many stripes are being forced out of business if they do not endorse or promote it (florists, bakers, photographers, bed and breakfasts, matchmaking services...). The military is introducing the whole sexual politic into is ranks. Christianity is being classified as hate speech. People are losing jobs for simply supporting the notion that marriage means one man and one woman.

And adoption agencies are closed if they won't place with homosexual couples. This is why I oppose the homosexual agenda. I don't hate your daughter.

Another primadonna, get lost. Who the hell are you and why should anyone take you seriously? Don't bother answering, your premise is lacking. Lay a groundwork first, then start demanding, as if anyone will listen.

I actually took Thiel’s words to mean that liberals’ ongoing diatribes about the need for gender neutral bathrooms was senseless.

That is how I heard it, too. He sounded to me like he was criticizing the left's forcing the culture war on everyone else.

Look, the man has a point. It can only hurt the GOP to continue to push the culture war, at this point. It's over anyway, but apparently many social conservatives don't know it yet.

The window of opportunity to turn back abortion, gay rights, sexual liberation was in the 80s. Reagan was president and he had the opportunity to appoint 3 Supreme Court justices. He appointed one conservative, and two pro-Roe liberals. That was it, that did it. It was over at that point.

Abortion has been legal for decades now, and it's considered a basic right by the large and growing population of single women in America. They consider abortion rights a fundamental element of their personal dignity and they're never going to give it up. Despite the polls continuing to show conflicted public opinions on abortion, voters (even in very conservative states like MS and SD) reliably reject even the most modest abortion restrictions at the ballot box.

Similarly, support for gay rights has taken off like a rocket ship in recent years. It's now a virtual consensus among young people that gays should have every protection other minorities have, should have the right to marry, etc. I've personally been astonished how fast liberals have routed conservatives on gay issues, and their charge is not letting up.

So, like it or not, the culture war is over. You can continue to preach in your churches, if you'd like. You can continue to picket clinics, you can continue to try to persuade. However, if you continue to demand that the GOP carry your water against the "sickos" or whatever, you're just helping to further cripple the party in future elections.

That was my only real criticism of Trump’s speech (which overall I loved and thought was one of the best political speeches I’ve heard). He didn’t mention the unborn. He has a chance to be a voice for them. Someone has to be, even if they endure hate (like you did tonight), an advocate for them. That’s why it ticks me off when people say we have to move past social issues. Well 1.3 million dead unborn children a year disagree.

Historically, and to date, the end of this “cultural war” is to turn society against God and those who are Christians.

This is the ultimate objective!

Naturally, the end of any society which rejects morality is the end of the same society.

Individual freedom itself, cannot exist in a society which has rejected morality!

This is already rapidly what is taking place across much of our society and their elected officials.

As the morality of American society is already spiraling down, the larger and louder the opposition to God, morality, and Christians is becoming!

As this is already happening, our elected officials are also becoming more anti-God and more antagonistic and hostile toward the morality and natural traditional family and the very Christianity which was espoused by those voters and elected officials who fought for and crafted our country and Constitution. The lack of morality is why our government has become so corrupt! The lack of morality in society is also why our government is out of control and grabbing more and more control of everything in society!

The more immoral we become, the less individually responsible and corrupt we are becoming!

It is now rapidly becoming normal across America for those who have a conviction against sodomy to be lined up for ridicule and hated. Today, MOST of the entertainment world, media, and press are highly antagonistic of Christians and morality. They mock and laugh at morality and those who espouse it!

As sodomy and all forms of perversion are becoming acceptable and legal, these practices are being heralded from the highest courts in America as civil rights (minority rights), and thus it is now “HATE SPEECH” to disagree.

There are dozens of court cases pending now across America, where “homosexual couples” appear to have targeted and are suing those who have convictions against it.

It is now going so far as corporations are now investigating social media to ascertain if their employee’s are against homosexuality. A number of high profile individuals of large corporations have already been fired this way.

There are now (I believe) 7 cases where employee’s or potential employee’s have been fired or intentionally screened out, after the employers decided to find out what their churches positions were, as some churches have not compromised their convictions on homosexuality.

In another very recent case, there is even an attempt to shut down a church, based on “hate crimes” speech, as they were teaching homosexuality is a wrong behavior (not genetic), and is “caused” or “learned.”

The funny part, or the not so funny part, is that the HGP was completed in April of 2003, and it was discovered there was no “gay gene” within genetic science. This means there is only behavioral causation.

Ironically, Freud (who I greatly dislike) taught that all homosexuality was “learned,” and “taught by parents.”

Media is ecstatic that he got a standing ovation (although apparently not all delegations stood up as I heard the Virginia delegation, for example, stayed seated). They were saying that it was just so historic for a Republican convention, and they thought it was marvelous the regressive Republicans were moving around to supporting gay “rights” as they call gay marriage.

Hitler, Goebbels, and Ernst (the man who helped Hitler obtain power) of the National Socialist Party of Germany were all gay!

And they sought to recruit “gay” soldiers, as they would not be bound by moral boundaries.

This is also very much in line with their strong humanistic beliefs, and why they sought out and murdered millions of Lutheran civilians across Germany, and acted to create fear and silence within the Catholic Church.

The Democrats absolutely do give a crap. That’s why we are losing. We have gay marriage and abortion on demand. Republicans have acted and done what they could and have caused restrictions on some state levels as well as PP defunding. When people say not to care about the culture wars, it is always said to conservatives by liberals. Liberals care about the culture wars. They are only telling us no one cares because they don’t want any opposition.

They have on state levels. Planned Parenthood has been defunded on state levels as well as restrictions which have made it harder to get abortions or led to closure of abortion clinics. That has saved lives. Unfortunately, the courts are liberal and don’t help us out. If we can overturn Roe vs. Wade, we can save a lot of lives.

The Democrats aren’t playing to their base. They are coming through. They fight to keep PP funded, no restrictions, and spreading abortion access. They got gay marriage legalized. They will never give up in the culture war. They want our side to disregard the cultural issues, but they won’t. They just don’t want opposition.

You are absolutely correct!

This so called “cultural war” has truly been initiated by the left, to destroy the American family and morality in an effort to turn a “nation of lions” into a “nation of sheep!”

They knew it was not possible to eliminate American sovereignty, with the goal of true sovereign global governance, without first eliminating the morality of the average voter. This was postulated over a hundred years ago.

George Washington was absolutely correct:

“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of man and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connexions with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked, Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice?

And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. It is substantially true, that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. The rule, indeed, extends with more or less force to every species of free government. Who, that is a sincere friend to it, can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?”

(Source: George Washington, Address of George Washington, President of the United States . . . Preparatory to His Declination (Baltimore: George and Henry S. Keatinge), pp. 22-23. In his Farewell Address to the United States in 1796.)

http://www.wallbuilders.com/libissuesarticles.asp?id=63

There are literally books written which discuss how it was necessary to destroy the family, morality, and the belief systems of Christians across America!

Christianity, morality, and a truly free society are the targets! And the enemy is nearing completion of its goal!

I don’t want to have a nasty habit shook in my face or affecting my restroom needs; but I want to respect others’ freedoms & them to return the favor.

If "the other side" actually returned the favor, then we would not be where we are today. People's lives and livelihoods have been destroyed by militants on the other side, with no end in sight. It appears that in the end, it *will* be a struggle fought under "Carthage Protocols", simply because the opposition will have it no other way...

So secular means children should be taught Islam and taught Christianity is evil? The funny thing is you are actually advocating a religiousness education. The left wing globalist philosophy is a religion. What are the important issues, that we can let our kids be taught the full Elizabeth Warren agenda?
