The Nuclear Option: Ted Cruz Loves Himself More Than Our Country
Breitbart.com ^ | July 21, 2016 | Charles Hurt

CLEVELAND — In the end, it was all about Ted Cruz. Delivering an unvetted speech before the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night, Ted Cruz — as is always his custom — carefully calculated just how to do it so it would benefit himself the most. And it backfired.

Yikes! No, I haven’t seen it, but it doesn’t surprise me. The guy is all ego.

“I don’t think Trump planned that Cruz would be booed off the stage.”

I kind of agree with that. He might have thought the response would be tepid and muted. When the whole thing started going south, I think Trump decided to walk in to the convention hall and put an end to it.

Interesting enough - but there are some people who call themselves conservatives who are full of admiration for what Ted Cruz did. A lot of them may be keeping their heads down right now, but they are there.

One who has come out publically in defense of Cruz is the New York Times house “conservative” Ross Doughthat, who writes that Cruz selflessly stood up for his principles and performed “an act of political courage” - even though he knew there would be no benefit to himself.

Wait for it - the liberal press, joined by the Trump-haters, is getting ready to sanctify Cruz and make him into a martyr for his principles.

No one put words into his mouth. The only one who sandbagged Cruz was Cruz himself. He did not have the simple decency to endorse his own Party’s candidate for president of the United States against Hillary Clinton. Again, he decided to do that all by himself. He has no one to blame for the reaction but himself. Ted Cruz just ended any hope of higher office, and he will be rather lucky to even be reelected.

I used to like the guy, quite a lot. I proudly voted to put him into office, though I am not so sure that I would even like him to be my Senator anymore.

Video Emerges of an 18-Year-Old Ted Cruz Talking About ‘World Domination’

If you’re not going to publicly support your party’s nominee, don’t show up and make a speech at the convention. Either you’re on-board or you’re part of the opposition. I could have voted for Cruz if he’d been nominated, but this is just pure ego, on par with Ted Kennedy dancing away from Jimmy Carter’s futile attempts to get him to join hands at the 1980 Democratic Convention.

I really don’t think it was Ted’s plan for him to be booed off the stage.

He thought he would be cheered for sticking to “his principles”.

He wanted to make a speech that would be seen as supportive of the party without actually saying that he endorsed Trump, and he expected -- I guess -- that he'd be cheered on for asserting conservative values.

That's a dangerous game to play. You have to know the room and know what the audience expects. And you have to know how you come across. Ted Cruz didn't. Ronald Reagan could get away with giving a convention speech that barely mentioned the party's nominee. Ted Cruz couldn't. For one thing "vote your conscience" isn't likely to be seen as any kind of party unity message. For another, Ted went on for too long.

“”Everything about Cruz is phony, from the way he scrunches up his eyebrows in fake sincerity to the way he tells tear-jerking stories one after the other. He gives me the creeps.””

I haven’t found a way yet to describe what I felt about him but this does the job well enough. I dislike/hate the smirk at the end of every sentence...Who hasn’t heard the story a thousand times about the $100.00 sewn into his dad’s underwear? Almost as if that is what qualifies him for political office. Nope - not the man we started out seeing...

Cruz thought that his speech and himself really represented the principled conservatism. Being booed off stage, he could have shrugged it off as him being misunderstood.

BUT NOT AFTER THIS MORNING with the TX delegates. It went disastrous for him.

Some might still support him after his convention speech, but anybody still does after his explanation this morning is no longer to be trusted.

Right after Cruz announced his candidacy, Greg Gutfield (whom I find annoying) snarked that Ted was all about himself. I was angered by the remark since I thought the senator was our guy - turns out Gutfield was spot on.

I have heard since I was young that pride is the worst of the seven capital sins. I used to think, “How can that be? Pride doesn’t really hurt anyone, like anger and lust and greed do.”

But it’s the sin that keeps you from knowing the truth, because you are too proud to admit you made a mistake in your thinking, and therefore it’s a direct offense to the Almighty, who cares about our souls most of all, our pure devotion to the truth and to Him. I get it now. Finally.

You’re right, in fact wasn’t “vote your conscience” a Ryan/Romney anti-Trump message to delegates?

He made the mistake of preaching to his choir, as Obama often does, and thinking it represents everybody. Or at least he’s going to pretend it does or fantasize that it does.

Cruz played the exact same shtick Nelson Rockefeller pulled at the convention after Goldwater beat him in ‘64.

Die-hard Cruz supporters have the wrong role models.

I think Trump saved Cruz from being tied to a rail and run outta town by coming out and providing cheers to cover the jeers.
Another 5 minutes and it may have really gotten nasty.
Ted owes Donald a debt of gratitude.

Chew on that Ted!
Give me back my money too, jackass. The proceeding message is from a supporter who was for Cruz until he dropped out and was also holding judgment until his opportunity to do right for the country. Today I'm just plain livid. I can't even imagine supporting him in the future for anything but maybe assistant turd counter and head condom remover at his local sewer treatment plant.

We are soooo lucky Cruz didn't win. He's a psychopath.

If you stand in a darkened bathroom, and whisper ‘Ted’ three times into the mirror, a giant bowel movement consumes your soul.

Knowing what someone is going to say merely means you know ahead of time they are going to screw you

Too bad for Cruz the Master of the "Art of the Deal" knew that Teddy would only wind up screwing himself if he did so.

...and he did!
