On the morning Fox and Friends show guest Frank Luntz, the corpulent pollster, was wearing Nike running shoes with American flags on them. Shoes made in Vietnam. Nike puts American flags on shoes made by third world slaves after shutting out the American worker. I am sure those things cost $200.00.

This is the problem in a nutshell..

made by third world slaves

FWIW, they're highly sought after jobs in their respective countries.

In Honduras for example, the alternative is working the sugar cane fields with a machete......

... And the force is Trump...

I hope you’re right, but he’s talking a lot more about raising tariffs, not gutting regulations.

Nike died for me when they signed up Michael Vick as a representative for their products.

Factory workers in Việt Nam don't qualify for the epithet "slave labor" and they are not, relatively speaking low paid. The Vietnamese are rapidly leveraging themselves out of third world status. The workers on the Nike line all have Japanese scooters and most have decent apartments. They are conscious of their talents and as they become more productive the companies must pay them appropriately lest they get better jobs elsewhere. Việt Nam will become something like South Korea once they make their unfortunate government go away. I suspect that will eventually happen.

Ah yes “excessive regulations and taxes” the fig leaf of cover for naked international labor arbitrage. I am all for reducing taxes and regulation but that has nothing to do with offshoring to exploit the different standards of living between the USA and the rest of the of the third world.

I’ve been in factories in third-world hell-holes. Even with wage parity, most businesses would continue offshore production rather than fight the US government. I realize you are a lost cause, but taxes and regulations are the root cause.

The average import tariff on foot ware is 20%. The EPA, OSHA, and Treasury Department makes it near impossible for Nike to make their products in America.

BS. It's all about the cheap labor. Several years ago while Michael Jordan was still playing for the Bulls, a story came out that Nike was playing Jordan and a few other famous athletes more than all its 30,000 factory workers in Asia.

In the past, I've read that sneakers made in Asia have a production cost of around $8 to $12, probably a little higher now.

Nike has healthy profits margins, and also spends incredible amounts on advertising and all the endorsement deals they make with athletes and teams.

As much as some want it to be something else, the primary reason companies move factories from the US to cheap labor nations is: cheap labor.
