Conservatives to Cruz: Time to back Trump
Politico ^ | July 20, 2016 | Katie Glueck |

Even some diehard loyalists say he needs to set aside lingering bitterness and get behind the GOP nominee.

They volunteered for Ted Cruz, gave him campaign money and still adore the Texas senator.

But now it’s time, say even some of his longtime loyalists, for Cruz to finally endorse Donald Trump.

Cruz, who will address the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, remains one of the GOP’s most prominent holdouts, refusing to back his presidential primary rival even as most other Trump critics have come around — if only with their noses plugged.

“I don’t just want Mr. Trump to win, I want a good old fashion landslide.”

I want a little more than a landslide; I want revenge.

If he does not endorse he will look petty and weak and nothing else he says during his speech will be reported. The MSM will only report that Cruz refused to endorse Trump.

Cruz is a smart guy and knows this.

I believe he absolutely will endorse Trump and it was worked out weeks ago. If he did not commit to endorse he would not have been invited to speak.

I think all this drama is just to maximize the effect of the endorsement. The MSM is already writing their stories about how important the non-endorsement will be. They are walking into a trap.

Don’t know, don’t really care. Keep the laser on Hillary. If they want to compare spouse-for-spouse, bring it on.

When Cruz shows up, Trump should tell the SS to grab that Cubanadian by the seat of his britches and toss him in the street to that ugly mob of Democrat protesters.

I supported and voted for McCain largely because he ultimately endorsed and supported GW Bush. I was just good to my word, which I said at the time that if he would do that, I would support him in the future.

I don't expect Cruz to do this though.

...so as a member of this wonderful experiment called The United States of America. A place where you can be the son of a Cuban immigrant and then a mere 30 years later are honored with the trust of the people of Great State of Texas as your Senator. I was privileged to be have won the trust of my supporters during the primary election. It was a tough fight, words were exchanged and invectives said, but one thing I never doubted was the patriotism and love for this country Donald Trump had for this country. I’ve spoken with Donald many times before, during and after the primary campaign and I found him to be a warm, generous and genuine man. We may not have agreed on all things policy, and do differ on some things philosophically, but I look into the camera right now and say in no uncertain terms I am proud to say I support Donald Trump for President of the United States and will work tirelessly to make sure he is seated at Pennsylvania Avenue January 2017 and to end this national nightmare that is the failed Presidency of Barack Obama.

I agree. Up until now, I can see the point of holding out for leverage on the platform, etc. Trump has been great on social issues in the preconvention, picking Pence, and suggesting dumping the Johnson Amendment to IRS rules.

Trump's done his part. This spech CANNOT be Cruz 2020 or even 2024. It has to be BE A CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATIVE, DESTROY CLINTON, ELECT TRUMP.

“if he wants another chance at the Presidency.”

I think that ship has sailed forever. He’s shown his true self and people can not, and will not, forget.

What I love about all the rhetoric is that Cruz is going to give a speech which puts him in position for 2020. What most don’t seem to get is if Cankles is elected we might not see 2020.

Where have you been? Cruz is finished. No ethical person would ever support this lying asshole. He’s toxic.

Yup. He’s a back-stabbing liar. Why would anyone, except a democrat, support someone with those personality traits?

As far as I am concerned Cruz has no future in the Republican Party on the National level. He has tipped his hand as to his politics/character/ethics. Is his position as a Senator is in jeopardy? That will be up to the voters in Texas. I think they will do the right thing about this Globalist come 2018.

That is what I have been saying. If Hillary gets into the White House, you can forget about 2020. For us, this one is it. There is no tomorrow.

He’s giving a speech now.
From reporter there:
“daveweigel ;@daveweigel · 5m5 minutes ago

Cruz: “Our party now has a nominee.”

At that exact moment, the Trump plane flies by.

“That was... pretty well orchestrated!” “

Very disappointed in him if he doesn’t strongly endorse the nominee!

Ronald Reagan did not endorse Gerald Ford. Remember how that worked out for him. However Ted Cruz is no Ronald Reagan, and this Country is nothing like the Country Ronald Reagan was elected in.

“He’s got some MAJOR issuess to sort out if he wants another chance at the Presidency.”

Issue #1 being he’s a natural born Cubanadian, and ineligible to hold the office.

Just curious. How are the hardcore Trump supporters going to respond in 2018 when President Trump campaigns border-to-border in Texas for Ted Cruz' re-election to the Senate?

I fully expect Ted Cruz to endorse Donald Trump tonight. I believe that's been the plan since the two agreed to the speaking spot. What better way to get people to listen than to gin up suspense about an endorsement?

I really doubt the conspiracy theories about Cruz trying to undermine the Trump campaign so he can run against Hillary in 2020. Cruz understands that he is a young man in political terms and he will still be young, politically-speaking, in 2024. He can be patient and he knows it. Cruz likely has assurances from Trump of his support in 2018.
