Cleveland (CNN)Former President George W. Bush fretted to a group of former aides and advisers in April that he was worried he could be the "last Republican president."

The 43rd president's remark, at a gathering in Dallas of his administration's staffers, reflected a dim view of the party's prospects at a time when the primary contest was realistically down to Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

The last Republican president was Ronald Reagan. The next Republican president will be Trump.

The truth is that Mr. Trump is on a roll and has left Mr. Bush behind.

Stay out of the Bushes and keep the Clintons out of the White House.

No, Rumsfeld said some reasonable things recently, and said voting for Trump over Hillary is “not even close.”

The DUmmies can see a corporate sock puppet just as well as the rest of us can. Its what we want to see instead of what we have now that we disagree on.

If Trump loses, I fear he may be right. If Hillary can ram amnesty through, that’s millions of new Democrat voters.

George please go. This all could have been avoided if you built the wall, as the law you signed said you would.

Sadly he only defends himself against other Republicans where was that bravado when Democrats were pillorying him? No he left it up to his supporters to try and contextualize what he was doing.... I am sick of carrying his families water...

Well, they did try to kill 41. And they weren’t following the cease fire. And our soldiers found radioactivity strong enough to make them sick in the soil. And we know he had nerve gas. And we know he ground up people in wood chippers. And we know he was shooting at our planes every day. And,....

And he did have 16 UN resolutions against him leftover from his invasion of Kuwait, don't forget. Kinda sad how many Conservatives forget all that. I personally think W was a good president - certainly a much better choice than Al Gore or John Kerry.

“I think by most objective standards W was in fact far more conservative than anything Trump has ever aspired to be.”

Admit it, you’re a neocon. Your posts consistently support the GOPE and the globalists.

I get voting for Dubya in 2000. He seemed basically conservative and was way far better than Algore. But in 2004 after Karl Rove crowed about the GOP being the party of "big government"? WTF was that???

Which brings me to a larger point. 20 years ago I was all in for PJB, who said essentially the same things that Trump is saying now. And just as Trump is obviously right now, so too was PJB obviously right then. About trade. About immigration. About Wall Street vs. Main Street. About our idiotic, interventionist foreign policy. About the culture wars.

So why did it take 20 years for republicans to pull their collective heads out their backsides? Why is it only now that PJB's policies gan any agency with the republican rank and file?

In short, how could so many of us have been so stupid the past 20 years?

Have no fear, Mr. President. To date, history is bearing out that Reagan was our last Republican President.
