Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the Lone Star State lawmakers are cracking down after recent recent attacks carried out against police officers.
Abbott on Monday announced the Police Protection Act, which
aims to strengthen penalties for crimes committed against police officers.
At a time when law enforcement officers increasingly come under assault simply because of the job they hold, Texas must send a resolute message that the state will stand by the men and women who serve and protect our communities, Abbott said in a news release, according to KTBC.

God bless Texas and my Gov Abbott and our dear LEO’s.
I totally agree with this action, but I think that it needs to include medical EMTs, and Fire Dept first responders (if it doesn’t).
Personally I hope they catch and prosecute to the fullest extent anyone that does violence against cops BUT I do not like laws that penalize people more depending on who is effected by the law breaking.
Murder is murder, assault is assault, rape is rape, theft is theft. No special consideration for the rich, poor, black, white, young, or old and no special punishment.
“The Police Protection Act will extend hate crime protections to law enforcement officers and increase criminal penalties crimes committed against law enforcement.”
And that’s EXACTLY what our squishy, spineless GOP Congress should be pushing as their number one priority right now. Even if not passed, it’ll put the Dems on record as anti-cop, and valuing cop lives less than others “protected” by current hate speech laws.
TX should go further and add a subchapter to the Conspiracy, Attempt, and Insurrection statutes.......
Expect this to run headlong into Obama’s BLM strikeforce, the Civil Rights Division of the Dept. of Just-Us.
“One of them will have to survive first.”

Apparently not:
“The Police Protection Act will extend hate crime protections to law enforcement officers...”
I’m a big fan of Sheriff Clarke and have been appalled by the escalation and degree of “cop hating” going on in our Republic; however, not at all sure that extending questionable laws (hate crimes/hate speech) to cover LEO’s specifically is necessarily a good idea or Constitutional.
If Texas seceded, I would give some consideration to moving there.
Make the organized blocking of traffic a major felony offense.
Membership in that group is sufficient reason for jail or deportation.
It should be a major felony offense. Wasn’t a baby in Memphis (?) blocked from getting emergency medical help, by these thugs??
What if the next time any of them need an amber lamps, the roads are blocked by protesters/anything? It would be on every newscast, 24/7.
Excellent. Now, independence.
It would be nice to know exactly what this Act says before jumping on the bandwagon.
God bless Texas and my Gov Abbott and our dear LEOs.”
I join you in this prayer. But, IMO, this is yet another in a long list of “feels good” policies which will do nothing to resolve the problems.
Two of our major problems can be directly attributed to Rick Perry - wide open border between Mexico and Texas and welcome mat extended to Muslims which caused a huge growth in the number of mosques in Texas.
The legislature should pass a law stating that the owner and the driver would be prosecuted and given five years in solitary confinement, barefoot, with minimum food rations and water. No tv, books, etc.
Agree, I would add, if murder, you are executed, once proven, and found guilty, very quickly. No languishing in jail at the peoples cost for many years.
I think this should be true for all people found guilty of murder.
Period.

¡Si, señora!
