A distinct possibility is that a secondary purpose of this false flag "coup" was to allow Erdogan to slaughter the Kurds once again under false accusations of "treason", and allow the US to turn a blind eye to that slaughter.
The US has regularly stabbed the Kurds in the back while claiming to support them.
