I heard a report that many of the soldiers were kept in the dark and didn’t know why they were being ordered to deploy. I suspect that many did not have loaded weapons.

A distinct possibility is that a secondary purpose of this false flag "coup" was to allow Erdogan to slaughter the Kurds once again under false accusations of "treason", and allow the US to turn a blind eye to that slaughter.
