As Clinton stumbles, Trump takes an apparent slim lead in new tracking poll
L.A. Times ^ | 7/15/2016 | David Lauter

As the presidential race moves into a key two-week period, with the announcement of running mates and the party conventions, Donald Trump has taken an apparent slim lead over Hillary Clinton, based on strong support from white voters, particularly men.

That finding, from a USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times Daybreak tracking poll, a new survey that begins publication Friday, marks a significant shift in a race that most polls indicated Clinton has led since mid-May.

The polls do not yet measure, for example, whether Clinton will receive a significant boost from Sen. Bernie Sanders’ endorsement on Tuesday. The next couple of weeks also could prove pivotal as voters tune in to the campaigns during the conventions.

Trump continues to face formidable obstacles to winning. Even as new surveys show the race tightening, he has not significantly increased his support: Since February, when he began to dominate the Republican primaries, his backing in head-to-head matchups with Clinton has rarely risen above 40%.

Instead, several new surveys show Clinton’s support declining, while the number of voters saying they will vote for a third-party candidate has risen.

In the new tracking poll, through Thursday night, Trump led Clinton 43% to 40%. That’s within the poll’s margin of error of 3 points in either direction, meaning the apparent lead could be the result of chance.

What isn’t known is whether the new surveys are capturing Clinton at a low that will prove temporary, as voters react to Comey’s criticism and the renewed attention to her use of a private email server, or whether they reflect a more lasting shift that could hobble the presumed Democratic nominee for the remainder of the campaign.

It would be one thing if the Low Information Voter was deciding between an intelligent blowhard who is occasionally crude versus an unsophisticated crook. But in this case, the choice of the crook is predicated on the fact that she will always be a crook, always has been a crook, and has inoculated herself from any jeopardy acting as a crook now or into the future. The choice of an intelligent, occasionally crude blowhard becomes much easier, it would seem.

“based on strong support from white voters, particularly men.”

Oh those evil white males. So where was this purported strong support when he was allegedly way behind a couple of weeks ago. I think in fact the lead is because he is appealing to a cross section and not just white males.

"Donald Trump has taken an apparent slim lead over Hillary Clinton, based on strong support from white voters, particularly men."

The writer's bias is palpable.

Clinton can’t move to the ‘Right’ so she is going to get crushed.

I love the word “apparent”. It’s a poll! The numbers reflect only the poll itself, so there’s nothing “apparent”. According to that poll, one person is in the lead.

Actually laughed when I read the headline. No need to even bother with the article. When Hillary! is up .025% it’s dominating. Trump, not so much.

An “apparent” small lead. In actuality it’s a large lead.

They can’t have her ahead by double digits because it would be obvious that they just made up the numbers. By keeping them so close they can hide how far Trump is actually ahead.

“apparent slim lead”

Yeah. Right. When Crooked Hillary was APPARENTLY ahead in the polls with a “slim” lead, the enemedia never described the situation as an “apparent slim lead”. Only when Trump rises to the top is the lead described as just “apparent”, you know, as in “maybe [hopefully] not real”.

The desperation in this article is palpable. It's been a very good week for Trump...

The liberal media types live in the NY/DC/LA echo chamber where absolutely nobody supports Trump and him winning isn't even a consideration because they simple don't think it is possible under any circumstance. If we get to about mid October and the race is a dead heat or Trump is leading and it begins to dawn on them that Trump could actually win, you are going to see things from the media you have never seen, they will dispense with even the slightest pretense of being fair and impartial, they will invent and hurl the most vile accusations imaginable at Trump from every direction in the hope that something stick.

Because Trump supposedly made fun of a handicapped reporter according to an ad airing on television here every other commercial break, it seems.
