Quiet Cruz weighs role in Trump convention revolt
Washington Post ^ | July 14, 2016 | Steve Peoples | AP

Sen. Ted Cruz is refusing to condemn a rebellion against Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention as the fiery Texas conservative weighs his political future against the prospect of a national Republican embarrassment.

Cruz’s continued public silence, as his loyalists actively plotted to undermine Trump on Thursday, irked Trump allies and Republican leaders alike, all eager to avoid a public spectacle when the four-day gathering formally begins on Monday. Yet having accepted a speaking slot on the main stage, there are signs the 45-year-old senator is willing to cooperate with Trump’s campaign — privately, at least — even as he works to sustain his popularity among anti-Trump conservatives.

Activists loyal to Cruz on Thursday waged a messy battle over convention rules that could free delegates to disregard the results of state-by-state primary contests, among other changes. The rebels face long odds, but even a small rebellion could embarrass the Trump campaign and party leaders during an event designed to demonstrate party unity.

His papa’s dominionist theology is weird... and who knows how much of it he soaked up. Does God bless Christians, yes. Does God give the whole world to Christians on a silver platter, not now.

All I can say is Lyn’ Ted. He should be ashamed. Too bad Trump invited him to attend. Anyone supporting him at this point—now, for reelection, for his anticipated future presidential run, is below scum. You are helping Clinton. Thanks. /s

It is time for him to put his big boy pants on get over his butt hurt and get with the program. That or get his resume ready for a job in the private sector.

If he doesn’t get with the program he better pray that Trump doesn’t win or he would have a tough time getting a job with ANY law firm. Trump and the party can poison his well pretty easily regardless of his intellect and talent.

Without his being a Senator, she is likely to never get a job in finance again, unless you consider entry level bank teller as a job in finance.

Her entire career is predicated on his political career. That is how the cronies at Goldman Sachs operates.

Yup. I truly believe that most of us thought a Trump/Cruz ticket was golden.

As events began to unravel, we learned that Cruz is an unethical liar and back-stabber. It's unfortunate given his scholastic achievements, but he's proven to be just another lawyer/politician. Now he's delusional and his career is shot.

Cruz claimed to have mostly wonderful political views but
he is now disgracing himself and insulting the intelligence of his supporters.
I wonder if Texans will re-elect him after this spectacle ?

For one thing WashPo is conflating the anti-establishment delegates with the anti-Trump delegates.
And then calling them all Cruz supporters.
Anyway, they have no ability to get anything passed so it’s all insignificant.

Actually, IF Cruz WAS supporting these groups it’s reasonable to think that they might have the ability to matter.
But they don’t.

This is Cruz’s last 15 minutes of fame. After Trump crushes him and wins the nomination, Cruz will slink back to the senate, a deminished man.

Even his poll numbers in Texas are dropping.

"Shucks! That silliness in '16? That wasn't me! It was a few crazy rogue campaign folks - you can take that to the bank, yes sir!"

"You know I've always been 110% dedicated to serving the good people of Texas now, don'cha?"

Not fighting for convictions, fighting for himself. He was voted down.

With McCain and Romney we were told to vote for the “R”. It’s better a democrat. Now the rinos are saying they won’t vote for Trump because he’s not a true conservative.

The fact that they selected Romney shows being conservative is not a priority. Being an elitist is.
