Responding to criticism, Trump calls on Justice Ginsburg to resign

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Republican presidential contender Donald Trump called on Wednesday for the resignation of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, describing her as mentally unfit after she lambasted him in a series of media interviews.

"Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court has embarrassed all by making very dumb political statements about me," Trump said in a Twitter post. "Her mind is shot - resign!"

The New York billionaire chided Ginsburg, 83, for criticizing him this week and expressing concern for the country's future if he is elected in November.

Trump said it was inappropriate for Supreme Court justices to weigh in on political campaigns. He told the New York Times on Tuesday that he thought it was a disgrace to the court and that Ginsburg should apologize to her colleagues on the bench.

Trump was not alone in the rebuke. In an editorial on Wednesday, the New York Times urged Ginsburg to uphold the court's tradition of silence in political campaigns.

"Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg needs to drop the political punditry and the name-calling," the editorial said.

The Times said there was no legal requirement that Supreme Court justices keep silent on political campaigns, but it expressed concern that Ginsburg would jeopardize her own commitment to impartiality.

Probably true on the cancer suggestion.

Maybe, but pure speculation on my part.

If she was that worried she should have resigned when Obama could appoint someone.

Jokes on her.

Just stick her in a closet during a case—she’s so senile, she won’t know the difference.

And that would be (hopefully) a Republican president’s pick.

Which brings us right to the nub of the matter. All I have to do is think about the Supreme Court, and I know that ANY Republican would be better than Hillary and her crowd. I had my issues about Trump during the primaries, but that's over now. He must win.

Gotta love the headline. Ginsburg says something outrageously inappropriate and it gets turned into Trump “responding to criticism”.

Riddle me this: if she is so aghast at Trump being President, wouldn’t she cling to her position as SCOTUS so that she could be part of the ‘checks and balances’? Wouldn’t she feel obligated to stay and do her ‘job’, feeling that she would be needed more than ever? That folks, is the oxymoron on liberal logic....

She has been showing medically obvious signs of dementia for some time now. It is outrageous that we have someone on the Supreme Court who couldn’t be trusted to turn off the stove after she heated up a can of soup.

She reminds me a great deal of the situation we had with my grandmother before she was finally sent to an Alzheimer’s facility. She started bashing into other vehicles with her car when she was in parking lots etc.... We knew that she shouldn’t be on the road, she was a danger to herself and others. But she would not give up her car keys. We started doing things like taking the rotor out of her distributor cap so her car would not run, but she would just get her neighbor to come over and figure out what was wrong. He knew she should not be driving also, but he kept enabling her.

It is the same story with Ginsburg. She is to the point where I am sure they have her house set up so she can’t get out and wander off. If it wasn’t for the people who are enabling her she wouldn’t even be able to find her way to the Supreme Court. At this point she is just parroting the partisan hacks who are keeping her from burning down her house or getting out and wandering off in her nighty in the middle of the winter. She no longer has any business in the Supreme Court. Whatever “legacy” she had is being completely destroyed.

Dear God, the asshats at the Times are the ones who always lead the "It's the seriousness of the charge" parade as justification for the latest MSM assault on a conservative or Republican, but they throw in that non-requirement to justify Ginsburg and soften the blow.

The ACLU has gone far away from any pure focus on civil liberties for a long time. Led by leftists like Ginsburg, they have long been an all purpose hacktivist group for the commie left.

I applaud the NYTIMES, stopped-clock and all that. But their reasoning is a bit 'off'. If they were being honest they would say "appearance of impartiality" since we all know she pre-judges every case from the Leftist viewpoint.

Hey, Obama opened the door for in-your-face critiques of SCOTUS Judges. Go for it, Mr. Trump.
