Ted Cruz to meet with secretive conservative group in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — Ted Cruz is making an extra trip to Cleveland to address a closed-door meeting of influential conservative leaders this Friday ahead of the Republican National Convention, according to four people familiar with his plans.

Cruz will speak to a gathering of the Council for National Policy, a secretive group of conservative activists, many of whom backed the Texas senator in his failed presidential bid earlier this year.

The Council for National Policy is a nonprofit but some of its members, including CNP President Tony Perkins, who also serves as head of the Family Research Council, are part of a subgroup that had voted to endorse Cruz in hopes of uniting the conservative movement behind a single candidate in 2016, rather than splintering as it had in 2008 and 2012.

Here’s a link to FL Rep Alan Grayson questioning Cruz’s legal right to be president.

Wow. Any experienced public person, esp a politician, would instinctively realize the optics of this and plan accordingly. It makes me wonder if he was sending a message to someone.

I didn’t know about that 5-yr rule. It sounds familiar, though. Thanks. I stopped paying attention after the Cruz Canadian neighbor’s started producing documents from their time in the late 60’s.

I’ll have a hard time voting for him unless he clears it up. Well, he’ll HAVE to or his opponent will beat him, even in Texas, IMO. I think after 8 yrs of BHO’s birth issues, people won’t forgive him for doing what he lambasted BHO for—sealing his records.

Please convince Walker Texas Ranger to run. Lol. Dems would shake in their boots!

I saw the Texas story here somewhere. If I remember right, I thought someone posted a stand-alone thread that didn’t get much traffic.

I bookmarked it for later follow up but can’t find it. I’m thinking I can’t find it because it was a link hidden inside a thread with an unrelated topic and I didn’t note it in the bookmark title at the time.

Too much info during this election year!

Btw, are u seeing the news about the Trump family visiting the Pence family home today? Interesting. ...

This is JR's site.
His rules are the one we all must follow here.

Agreed.

He is against TRASHING Trump and/or his supporters here. If you refuse to comply, you don't belong here and FWIW....won't be here much longer, if you keep this crap up.

Where have I "trashed" Trump? I've merely stated I have some differences with him, but will support him nonetheless. Have you no differences with him?

And where does it say that Trump supporters are somehow immune from criticism? This is a forum, where opposing points of view are welcome, not an "all happy talk, all the time" propaganda mill.

I have copied JimRob so that he might validate your threat -- or invalidate it, as the case may be.

No, he can’t run for office in Canada because he publically renounced his Canadian citizenship when he “found out” he had Canadian citizenship.

I didn’t know about that 5 year rule for Canadian citizenship but I checked and that was in force in 1970. OTOH with his records sealed except for his mother’s BC, we don’t know when they moved to Canada.

The only thing I had heard/read was that shortly after the Dallas incident (’64), the family moved to Canada for whatever reason... I can’t back that up with any certainty so we don’t really know exactly when they moved there.

Damn. It would be good to know one way or the other.

It makes me wonder if he was sending a message to someone.

Good point. Something is going on there and it does not benefit us. Another thought, was bummer sending a message of endorsement to low information voters, for Ted to be next prez and continue bummer's policies?

Rushing my life away, but I'll be glad when next week, and the convention is over. LameCherry had a dire announcement concerning The Donald.

Sorry for answering a question with another question, but do you consider Hillary to be “brilliant” too ?

Didn’t Mrs. Cruz get invited as well?

Brilliant is a subjective word. For me personally I do not see her as brilliant. Same holds true for Obama. To some though, they are both brilliant people. When I said Cruz was intelligent and brilliant enough to fool me, perhaps I was just giving myself too much credit. Perhaps I should have said I was stupid enough to believe that Cruz was intelligent and brilliant. Or to put it differently, I listened to what he had to say and was blindly willing to accept that he also believed in what he was saying.

Alan Derschowitz, claims he is off the charts brilliant. "Without a doubt he is the smartest student I have ever had.... I've had great students, but he has to be at the top of anyone's short list in terms of raw brain power."

He has what's called an audio-graphic memory. He remembers everything he hears & said it's like an audio file in his brain just replaying. He remembers the inflection, everything. He also memorized the constitution when he was in sixth grade & still remembers it. He had a near perfect score on his LSAT as well, and his IQ is somewhere around 145.

In my opinion, all con men display a degree of brilliance even if that brilliance is limited to knowing how to use confidence effectively.

Read again. I wrote that Cruz would endorse Trump at the Convention -- which hasn't happened yet.

Oh I read what you wrote...what is stopping Cruz from endorsing the Republican candidate Donald Trump right now?

Oh I read what you wrote...

Then, why did you ask the question you asked?

what is stopping Cruz from endorsing the Republican candidate Donald Trump right now?

Maybe Trump has asked him to save it until the convention, when his endorsement would have a greater impact. Historically, the #2 guy has saved his endorsement until his convention speech for that very reason.
