HOORAY Steve King. Tell the anti-history, anti-freedom, totalitarian Branstad to ESAD.

I think they should display the “Stars and Bars”, and see if anyone recognizes it.

I was at the Port Republic battlefield this weekend and they had a period correct Confederate flag along side a period correct US flag. My son was impressed they got it right.

I’m going to have to get one. Always did think it looked better than the federal flag.

“I don’t know why a Northern Congressman would want anything to do with the Confederate flag.”

Probably a combination of things: a respect for history, a love of Southerners like Washington and Jefferson and wanting to preserve the Republic they established, a love of the Constitution, respect for worthy opponents that Iowa men helped to overwhelm at one time - plus King is probably very intelligent.

Low blow from a litte man. But this (my) RINO governor would never criticize the party of slavery: The Democratic Party. I wish these people would disappear.

>> “I don’t know why a Northern Congressman would want anything to do with the Confederate flag.” <<

Heck, I don't know why a Republican Congressman would want anything to do with a Democrat Party symbol (See post #22). The people who created and hoisted that flag up in the first place were entirely Democrats.

>> Probably a combination of things: a respect for history <<

Then perhaps he should respect the fact that history shows the Confederate Battle Flag never flew over Iowa. I don't find it "respectful of history" when people fly the Mexican flag in my state and pretend that Illinois was once Mexican turf.

>> a love of Southerners like Washington and Jefferson and wanting to preserve the Republic they established <<

Washington and Jefferson knew nothing of the Confederate Battle Flag, it was created decades after they died. It had the exact opposite intent of what you describe: it was flown by those who wished to LEAVE the Republic they established (the United States of America) and create a new Republic (the Confederate States of America)

>> a love of the Constitution <<

See above. I'm sure Steve King loves the U.S. Constitution. But the confederate flag flew under the Confederate Constitution (the one that says slavery is an eternal "right" and cannot be abolished). I sure hope he doesn't love the Constitution that the flag flew under.

>> respect for worthy opponents that Iowa men helped to overwhelm at one time <<

I suppose he could respect the individual men's courage who fought in the rival army, but fly their flag? Does he need to fly Kaiser Germany's World War I era flag to show that he respect the courage of German troops?

>> plus King is probably very intelligent. <<

Hopefully much more intelligent than the "logic" used in jeffersondem's post.

He was wearing a Gold’s gym shirt in some of the pictures. I wonder why they haven’t been shut down too.

I was in Orange Beach Alabama on a mini vacation when Roof did the stupid, Friday I wake up in the same condo and a sorry bastard has outdone Roof. Too bad they bombed the Micah Johnson hater as they could have put him and Roof in a room with flamethrowers, for whatever healing effect that would have had.

The brainwashed stupid people of the past few generations have been led to believe that the civil war was ONLY about slavery. It was not.

The events of today and the potential loss of our independence and freedom parallels that which happened back then.

The Confederate battle flag flies proudly at my home to remind those who really know history that it is time to rise again. Not just the south this time, but for all free Americans who wish to save our country if it is not already too late.

The Political Correctness (PC) machine has already turned out an entire new generation of those who have no idea what real freedom is...and if you never had it...how would you know what it is? Our educational and entertainment industry has done a stellar job in selling propaganda and mind control what would make Goebbels envious.

He also has the Vatican flag displayed. What does the governor read into that?

With your opinion on this subject it is no surprise that you are from Illinoise. I proudly fly the U.S Flag and Confederate Flag as I am proud of my ancestors who bravely fought on both sides of the war. I have never understood how some folks cannot grasp that simple concept.

I know you want to wrong-foot today's Democrats and I'm sympathetic to your efforts. Sympathetic, but not confused. I don't want to reject the principles of the Declaration of Independence or the Bill of Rights.

“But the confederate flag flew under the Confederate Constitution (the one that says slavery is an eternal “right” and cannot be abolished). I sure hope he doesn't love the Constitution that the flag flew under.”

Please, don't get caught using the old “slavery is a Southern problem; racism is a Southern problem” justification for Lincoln's war and your animus. Slavery was incorporated into the U.S. Constitution and not just by the votes of the four states that ended up in the Confederacy. All thirteen states voted to have slavery in the U. S. Constitution. The same Constitution that Lincoln twice took an oath to defend. Own it.
