That is because, by the liberal definition, invented during the "Assault Weapon Ban", the SKS is a Hunting Rifle. No pistol grip, no large cap magazine, no flash suppressor, etc.
I know, crazy, huh? The M1 Garand gets the same treatment.
Beats me how the SKS became part of media speculation.
Of course, we know media people are real small arms experts./s
What it looks like new.
SKS in cosmoline are usually the Yugo version w/grenade spigot. Bought one last year.
Takes forever to degrease (paint thinner works) but a refrigerator condenser brush greatly helps & it is the best quality of the SKS variants in my opinion.
Reviewed picture of corpse at link you provided. He has a beard. I don’t recall that the Dallas shooter had a beard; but, perhaps he had grown one.
Also, multiple reports from various news media indicated authorities said that shooter’s body was so badly damaged they did not expect they would be able to run successful toxicology. Reported explosive charge of one pound of C4 detonated at a distance of 3 feet would seem to me have done a lot more damage than the body shown in the photo.
LtCol Bill Cowan, USMC(Ret) was the first person I heard report the shooter’s weapon as an SKS. He reported that on FOX News at least a day before the images of the alleged shooter’s body and Saiga AK clone surfaced; so, starting to wonder if the photos may be a hoax.
Never believe anything that the media reports, ditto for anything from a politician. Free Republic will almost always have the correct answer, but you have to sort that out from the mindless speculation that come from the idiots.
In this case, the picture from the crime scene of a modified Saiga 5.45mm semi-automatic rife based on the AK-74 is the correct answer. Another picture of the deceased shooter was taken at the same rubble strewn scene.
No you didn’t. You can’t gussy up an SKS to look like a Saiga AK-74, which is what is in that photo,
Sloppy reporting like this is going to spawn all sorts of conspiracy theories...

Yes, always does, and you can already see it hear. Ignore the friggin’ media, they don’t know a Daisy from an M16, or an SKS from an AK47, or a clip from a magazine. They are virtually NEVER right. Just wait for the police updates, screw CBS and the rest of them.
Some called it an ak-74 too.
They never get it right.
And it is a rusian origin weapon, the chinese copied.
Precursor to the ak.
SKS is a Chinese Slave Labor P.O.S. rifle that fires a 7 x 39 round. It’s terrible for long distance.
A M-14 is a much better rifle.
But, but was it registered?!?
Interesting how the MSM so-called gun experts always wind up shooting themselves in the foot when trying to identify firearms. Some gun person sitting on their back porch would say “that’s a whatever whatever with added this and that to make it a leadenspittenloundebboomer model XPIIIver5.JK
It’s clear, you don’t know what you are talking about! Leave
it to the gun experts.
“Regardless they are still a cheap rifle.”
Cheap before Obama took office. $450 is going rate around here.
I wouldn’t pay that on my best day. They aren’t worth it.
