I liked Ike as a tyke, but he was a much better general than president. A better president than Stevenson would have been, I’ll grant you that. But as a president, he was a good golfer.

The only other three generals-—other than Washington-—to be president were not Republicans: Jackson, Harrison, Taylor. Washington was a Federalist.

A good thing to keep in historical perspective is that the Democrat party today is in reality the Communist Party with retention in name only.

We still have more than a week to go. Did Trump ever announce the winner more than a week before the final episode of one of his reality TV shows?

So my guess would be that it's still too early and it's not going to be Flynn. The leaks are all coming through the "wrong" media outlets -- WaPo, NYT, CNN -- ones that Trump would be happy to feed bogus information.

If it is Flynn -- have the Republicans ever had two (2) Democrats on their ticket before this year? But at least it is giving Trump free media attention.

Since Flynn is a Democrat, this has the eGOP in a tizzy. They are plotting another coup, this one for VP selection, right now.

See post 157, there were a lot more than 4 Generals who became President. The most recent notably was Ike, who was a Republican. Quite frankly, Jackson, although a Dem, was probably the most conservative President (in the current definition) this country ever had. He was the only one to ever completely pay off the national debt, he gave the banks hell and cut their power over government, he also did not put up with crap from the terrorists of his day (Indians).

Ike qualifies as a GREAT president for his foreign policy achievements alone.

Do you realize how dangerous the world was at the time?

We were in a shooting war with China (Korea) that looked to have no end when he took office. He ended it quickly.

Russia was at the height of it’s aggressiveness and expansionist attitude when Ike took office.

Ike established the idea of the Cold War. That we could contain Russia and China without getting into a shooting military conflict. And he made it work to our advantage.

We remember the 50’s as a peaceful, happy time. We have Ike to thank for that. He ended the Korean war and set the policies that prevented us from going into another war (until Kennedy’s “wiz kids” decided to ignore Ike’s recommendation to NOT send troops into Vietnam, because according to Ike “our experience in Vietnam would be no different than that of the French”; Ike was right).

To be blunt, if any other person had been president the Korean war would have drug on for years and we likely would have ended up in a shooting war with the Soviet Union. In other words, WW III would have happened in the 1950’s.

Yea, Ike was a GREAT president.

The Cold War and containment predated Ike by a good bit. I suppose it could be said that things didn’t get any worse on his watch, at least regarding foreign policy. I’ll allow he was the best of the mediocre ex-general presidents.

Good point.

Giuliani has been spoken out strongly and effectively on issues, shows no fear of criticizing Obama and Hillary. Thus, some have wondered if he is under VP consideration. I myself doubt it (both being from NY) but perhaps for AG or Homeland Security.
